Yeah, so let's hear about how your home network works. Because mine is pretty badass.


Except for the dial-up connection. Which is where I'll start.

The dialup comes into my dual-monitor desktop, which then connects to my laptop via a CAT5 cable. 100mbps thoroughput. So, then, I've got integrated wireless on the laptop which I use to connect (ad-hoc) to my pocket PC, which now has a wireless CF card in it. By bridging the wifi and the ethernet connections, I get internet on the pocket pc, and can chill on AIM in the kitchen with no other computers around.

My network could get more badass if i busted out my old school laptop with it's wireless card. Also, I'm planning on setting up my dad's laptop downstairs to connect to the net through my desktop so that he doesn't kick me offline everytime he wants to use the internet.

I got a wireless router with cable (3mb/s). going to three desktops and my laptop. it sucks ass. lately it has been pretty good, but there was a while when it would wig out for no reason and all this shit. we even got a new router and it didnt do a thing.

the other thing that sucks about it, is that since the desktops all connect to the internet, i cant have the one desktop without a printer connect to the one with a printer, in order to print, while still being on the internet. But they all get better internet speed becuase of my setup and i don't have to have one on in order to get the internet on another. Wireless blows, honestly, i would have rather have spent the money on wiring the house with ethernet. that would make out connection faster too.

Everyone in my family is hardwired except me, because i lie in the basement, with no windows, nor windows, or exterior walls, so it would be a bitch to wire it. My wireless always cuts out, and its kinda apain in the ass. I don't have enough of my pown equipment to make my own netwrok sick. I wish i had a laptop, oh i want one sooooo bad.

^^ dude, you have to be able to get into your basement somehow......... just buy really long CAT5 cables and run it down the stairs.

I actually got my new laptop in the most awesome of ways............. My pops brought it home from work.

He hands it to me, says "I can't get into it, but can you tell me if it's worth $200?"

10 minutes later I'm past the windows security password, and it turns out to be a 1.2ghz centrino running 512mb of ram with a 30gb HD and integrated 802.11b with a CD-RW drive in it. SICK!

Fresh install of XP pro on it, crack the activation because I'm a bitch and reinstall windows on every computer every 6 months or so........ so I'm out of activations......... and I'm set to go.


Now all I really need to do is to get some DSL shiznizzle going on in here, and I'll be rocking out more than MC Hammer.

My parents re-fuse to have a chord running down 3 stories of of stairs. And i don't feel like going and plugging it in every time i want to use the net, then unplugging it each time, so the USB wireless was the easiest solution for me when we moved.

i have a nine 5 network triple cable with quad adapters and 27 inch triple-the-crossers dsl eighter nine four with lan cable hookups to the wall!!! yeah, it's pretty awesome

yeah really you can get broadband for $5 more a month and have a 3Mb conenction... dude should keep buying more conputers for his awseom 56K network wooohoooo.

i mean i coould do 100 times the amount of things on 1 computer and still be faster than that network. yet i do have 2 computers so it woudl be like 200 times bettter

My dad has his desktop computer in his office downstairs which is connected to the upstairs desktop, my laptop, and my sister's laptop. I can access all files on any of the computers in the network, which is too cool. I save my documents to my dad's computer, copy my sister's music to my harddrive to put on my mp3 player, and we can print to the downstairs printer from any computer in the house. My friends claim the upstairs desktop has the fastest internet connection in town. It is pretty goddam fast.

Right now I'm on NS and taking a shit at the same time. Multitasking is the best.

Don't know what routers or cables etc we've got, but we have two destop pc's and a laptop hooked up to broadband in our house. Two phones can be connected via bluetooth. We also supply wireless access to two of our neighbours for a small fee. Its great having a dad working for a telecoms company. :)

I have a linksys wrt54g with Alchemy firmware on it. Going from the linksys to a 8 port 3COM gigabit switch, all computers have GigE, and the server has redundant Intel GigE cards and over a TB of storage, housing approximately 200 ripped DVD's currently. With 802.11g wireless connections to my laptop, the media center PC, and the TiVo.

So yeah, I win

^ alchemy firmware? haven't heard of that one - but sounds cool. I've got a slimmed down version of TSL running on one of my wrt54Gs. do you have the v1.0 or 1.1 of the wrt54G?

ps - i just don't have the heart to put everyone elses' setup to shame. but i'm sure your cars would put mine to shame...

i've got an old apple 3200 with a SCSI, great for video capture, a storage apple with two 120gig HDs, an 800MHz apple, and a 3.2gig P4 with a giga of RAM, and a radeon 9800pro. combined, my network is like the megazord. my computers all have good qualities on their own, but when brought together, they're just a friggin powerhouse.

yeah ive got a router too, wireless to a comp in the kitchen n cables to the basement comp n mine in my room, and one spare one goin to my bros room cause hel prolly end up gettin one soon in his room

i got a 8 port (count them 8 mother fuckers) router wired through the attick to my computer, the main computer, my brothers computer, my ps2, and my brothers ps2. all cable. that's a diesel ass network. fuckface buttfucking swamp ninjas.

I have dial up, I can't view vid, it sucks, if i try to view vids it takes 9 hours. yeah, i don't know about computers.

I don't deny there are bad things in the US right now, hell, 51% of the country to be exact. But god damnit, our country being fat is NOT a problem. I do't give a shit how fat people are. hell, fat kids are harder to kidnap, that means our country is safer.
