Drove through malibu last weekend and gas was 2.99 a gallon. At least down here in Ornage County its significantly cheaper at 2.70 a gallon.

jack batch you got me prety good there, but moving on to what you guys are talking about now. i agree that he is the most dividing presedent ever in the history of the nation. i have never been to the point of not wanting to say anything political around my friends till this year. im a hard core democrat and so are my parents. but we do own guns. bouth of my parents also work for the govenment to. you say bush is pure profit when we are spending ourselves into debt faster than we could ever ever pay it off. and spending does not make profit you know that as well as i. when clintion left office in 2000 we had a buget surplus that would have had all of the national debt paied off by the year 2010. now were running a deficit of close to 1.5 trillion dollars and none of you bush supporters are blinking and eye. you know whos going to have to pay for that. not bush, not the people in office right now, but you and i. so when were all having to pay for it out of our asses what are you going to do? another thing i would also like to add is that it seems that the only people that actuly like bush are the republicans of the u.s. i have not yet talked to someone from a forgin country that has liked him. shouldnt that be telling you something?????

Every time I hear something like this, God kills a puppy...seriously.

Many convince themselves that the whole situation of debt is a matter of not being able to control your checkbook (figuratively speaking). Its far more complicated than that. In actuality, every nation is in debt. It is simply the nature of the economy. What people should be paying attention to is the balance between the debt and gross domestic product (GDP). Debt is actually not a problem if the GDP is healthy. An economy will only fail if the debt continues to increase the GDP falls. This is basic macro-economics. I can go into much more detail, but it would take a while to explain it to somebody that doesn't understand. This nation was already in debt before Bush came into office, Clinton for that matter too. During Bush's presidency, the GDP has actually risen. He has actually helped this issue more than hurt it. So before anyone talks about a nation debt, have an understanding about the problems nature. Oh and FYI, we are not in a recession.

It would be great if you knew what a deficit is. It is an annual figure and not cumulative one. The 2004 deficit was more like 412 million dollars.

ya the gas prices are crazy. i was told though that shell and petro canada are a part of the problem as they are the major oil suppliers and if you can you should try to avoid buying from them. with them not bringing in as much oil, it should drop the price down. now that is what i was told.

To elaborate skogenjake...OPEC is a collusion of multiple Middle Eastern oil exporting nations. It includes every player in oil exportation from that region with the notable exception of Saudi Arabia. The nations colluded in order to have joint and complete control over oil supply and price. They have a large say in overall oil pricing because they collectively are the largest oil exporter in the world.

We may have had some growth since 2003 but with oil prices rising, consumer spending is going to decrease. Additionally, our boys over in Iraq are having a hard time securing and maintaining the oil pipelines and production facilities that transport and harness the world's second largest oil reserves. Also: the value of the American dollar is consistently plummeting, which is a pretty big deal considering coutnries like Japan (who we are greatly endebted to) and Korea keep reserves in US Dollars.

You paint an optimistic conservative outlook on the economy while it consisently slips and falters. I respect your opinion and you as a person, so please don't come back with sarcastic personal attacks and for the love of god don't call me a liberal, haha.

There was a lot of truth to what you said about the debt and deficit, but it seems like you're optimistic about the economy and our economic situation in general, which widely is believed to be in a decent amount of shit.

Anyways, word.
