Mad Professors of Skiing is a full length documentary film about Real Skifi. We made this film first and foremost for ourselves and loved ones. In the age of fast clips and algorithms we wanted to create a meaningful memory that could last for decades. The goal was not to convince the world how cool of a phenomenon Real Skifi is. Instead we tried to capture genuine feelings and memories focusing on what this journey has felt like and meant for us.

We started working on Mad Professors of Skiing in the spring of 2020 and we premiered it locally in December 2022. And now, in February 2024, it’s time to release it for you.

Biggest thanks to everyone who has accompanied, supported or watched us throughout the years. We couldn’t have done this without you. We’re beyond thankful for all we’ve had.

Isaac Newton, one of the greatest physicists ever, once said that “no great discovery was ever made without a bold guess”.

A few centuries later Juho Kilkki said that “I doubt any great discoveries were made here but dropping in on any of these tricks sure felt like the boldest of guesses”.

The 2023 Valio Academy scholars have now been released - this time it’s a total of 319 scholarships! Real Skifi - Newton's Laws (Part 1)

In 1687 physicist Isaac Newton published a book called “Principia”, which set the foundations for classical mechanics: Newton’s laws of motion. Below is a somewhat free translation of the laws:

(I) If you forget to set your spin/flip on the take off, it’s quite hard to do so midair

(III) But if you happen to have a pair of dumbbells with you in the air and you throw them, the dumbbells will also throw you

(II) The bigger the dumbbells, the more you spin/flip

However some rules could not be found from Newton’s Principia. Rules that would hundreds of years later dictate how Valio Academy scholarships work. Here’s the three perhaps most important ones:

(1) You may only get a scholarship if you apply for one.

(2) Don’t waste your time. The deadline for next year’s applications is August 14th 2022.

Street skiing is a niche sport. But it can still be versatile, colorful and full of nuances. It's a sport and an art that you can make your own. That's why street skiing deserves to be portrayed in rich ways. You don't need to have tons of equipment and crazy spots to go out there. You don't need to be all serious and only do it at night. Grab your friends or even go by yourself and go do it your way. Just because we have a narrow image of something doesn't mean we should stick to it.

Each year Valio Academy program is sponsoring hundreds of children's and adolescents' sports and well-being. Anyone (in Finland) can apply for a scholarship - regardless of their sport or level. Real Skifi Tenet

Take off comes before landing. Or does it? What if the outrun is actually the inrun? Real Skifi Tenet is a skiing fiction piece inspired by Christopher Nolan's Tenet.

All the illusions in this video were achieved by acting and simply reversing and/or altering the speed of the footage. No VFX needed. The question is: which clips are reversed, and which are not? Which ones go back and forth, and which don't? After all, time is in the eye of the beholder.

The idea for this video had been in our minds for a while already, and finally we got together to brainstorm and make it happen. In this project, we had to use our creativity differently from what we’re used to. This time, the challenge was to get the acting and timing right instead of landing a hard trick. We hope you enjoy!

This fall we took part in choosing some of the Valio Akatemia stipendiaries for the year 2021. It was inspiring to see how much excitement, motivation and vision was present in the applications. The new stipendiaries will be published in early 2021.

Organic Skiing is a video part made by me and my wife during the winter of 2016. When filming for the video we walked to all the spots from our home. (Except one that was in the backyard of our friends' house where we were staying for a holiday.) We used only natural terrain to get speed for the tricks and natural light for filming.

Jyväskylä has a pretty strong history in urban skiing and snowboarding. Actually most of the spots in this video were already built by other crews such as the Tikut Gang. Huge thanks for the setups and inspiration for all the local shredders.
