The Cure for Shin Bang

After 3 years of tireless searching, I have finally found the cure for Shin Bang.

OK, not the cure, but an effective treatment.

As we all know, Shinbang is the term for the excruciatingly painful tearing of tendons in your shins caused by landing backseat, so the obvious prevention of this injury is to avoid backseat landings. Trying new tricks sometimes results in a few good backslaps though, so for those of us who still huck our meat on jumps, here is a way to ease the pain.

This shit is like bengay, but more like alternative medicine. I promise you it works wonders if you rub it on your shins before skiing with bad shin bang. In less than 5 minutes after application, It literally numbs your shins, and allows you to ski with your boots buckled up normally.

Uh, I've found not landing backseat or coming up short + long term hot tub use works pretty nicely.

skiing at all with shinbang does this. This treatment is for those who are going to keep skiing anyway, regardless of how banged up their stupid legs are.

obviously the best treatment is rest, and NOT SKIING. but for some of us that participate in competitions, that isnt really an option.

I heard of people using BioFreeze for shinbang too. Just not something I wanna be doing right now though. If it hurts too bad to ski, it's probably for a good reason.

i obviously addressed that landing backseat was the cause, but that it still happens sometimes.

its about your boot, not having the right leg strength and ski style, mostly backseat fuck ups im sure though, and bro, it cannot be cured the same for everyone, each year people are all 'cure to shinbang'

The cure for shin bang is to go out and spend the $$$$ on ski boots that actually fit you properly. Like for real. I would spend $1000 on a pair of really good custom ski boots im going to have for 10 yrs +!

i cleaned up my stance, strengthened my thighs (i can leg press 700lbs) and i crank the buckles on my boot and i dont get it at all anymore


same boot i used to get shinbang 3 years ago

Obviously this solution doesn't actually fix the problem, it just masks it. But I'm sure half of you bitching about that have no problem taking some advil and heading to the hill. While not ideal, there are some situations where being able to pull it together for a day is important - maybe a comp, maybe a friend coming to visit for a couple days, mayne you work on the hill. As long as you still ski with an awareness of the injury I don't see this as a bad thing.
Better boots, leg strength is obviously important in the longterm but won't help little dude that overshot in the park yesterday.

im not just a bandwagoner? have you ever had full tilts? they are actually the most comfortable boot in my opinion, i dont give a fuck if twall wears them, they are good boots, so enough with everyone hating on full tilits and calling us trend whores

Sure full tilts are not the answer but a properly fitted boot is. I bought full tilts this year and after completely trusting the fitter I have landed backseat many times and I don't get any shin bang. Plus if you land switch a lot full tilts make your shins not hurt from shinning you already have

I'm not hating on Full Tilt, but I know from experience that they aren't the solution to everyone's shinbang problem. I've had Full Tilts, they weren't right for me, so I sold them and bought SPKs instead which are perfect for me, and I know I'm not the only one for whom Full Tilts were not the answer. If Full Tilts work for you, that's great, I'm not calling you a trend whore, but the advice to be given when it comes to boot problems is NOT "get full tilts", it's "get boots that are right for you".

Don't take a suggestion that Full Tilts aren't right for everyone as a personal insult.

Skiing park isn't the healthiest thing to do.

Shin bang is an injury like any other. Fortunately like most minor injuries, we can ignore the pain with analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs if we absolutely need to. It definitely prolongs healing time to ski while injured, but if you really need to ski for a competition, vacation, or a sick pow day, numbing stubborn nerve endings with drugs is the way to go.

For complete shin bang pain relief, combine external application of Zhen Gu Shui with 800mg of Ibuprofen, and a gram of quality weed.

I think the usual cure is tighter boots and a tighter power strap...never had an issue, ever.

Yeah this is the most important thing. getting bucked backseat in the first place can be caused by loose boots for sure.

Unfortunately some people can have excellent fitting boots, booster straps, and no lower leg play at all and still tear their shins up landing back seat.

alright so fuck it if i look like a idiot but not being english, when you talk about shin: back of the leg or front of the leg? im thinking back cos landing backseat n i've had it before but shin pads: protection for front of the leg...help me out here...

For future reference, the shin is the front of your bottom leg. You can feel your bone. The calf is what the back of the bottom leg is called. It's the fleshier muscle part.

The shin is the front, the calf is the muscle in the back. calf bang can suck too, but not as bad, because when you ski normally you have pressure on your shins. bruised calf muscles just make tail presses uncomfortable.
