Las Vegas, NV (January 29, 2008) – adidas eyewear today launches its new 2008 goggles, the ID2.  Optimized specially for the snowboarder or freeskier, the ispo award-winning ID2 combines innovative two-frame construction, breathable Nano Foamä and a prescription ready Performance Insertä all in one goggle – raising protective eyewear to a new level.

In an effort to produce the best performance sport goggles, adidas eyewear incorporated the latest in technology with customizable style.  Judges at the ispo Boardsports Awards 2008 were won over by the ID2’s incorporation of new breathable, moisture-repelling foam fleece.  Snow crystals do not stick to the new Nano Foamä and water-drops roll off this refined special surface, wicking water away.  As a result, less moisture builds up inside the goggle, preventing lens fogging, especially in whiteout conditions.

Other winning attributes include a two-frame construction and a prescription ready Performance Insertä. The two frame construction combines an inner frame that conforms to the wearer’s profile and protects from wind and moisture. An additional outer frame made from scratch-resistant SPXä protects the dual spheric lens, which is treated with double anti-fog coatings and provides undisturbed peripheral and vertical vision. The new Performance Insert provides a prescriptive solution for those in need of optical correction without the hassle of contact lenses.  Snowsport enthusiasts simply add the insert, made with their prescription, above the nosepiece and violà, hit the slopes with distortion free vision.

“As someone whose worked in and around the snowsports industry for over 25 years, I’ve gear tested many goggles and I can honestly say that the ID2 is the best of any goggle I’ve worn in the past,” said Jeff Ravreby, U.S. brand manager, adidas eyewear. “There are a lot of great goggles out there, so winning the accessories category at the ispo Awards justifies the meticulous craftsmanship that went into making the ID2.”

The ID2 was made in cooperation with and international team of adidas sponsored athletes including Julien Regnier, Marko Grilc, and Stian Hagen.  These professionals provided feedback on performance, fit and comfort as well as style.   The result is a first in eyewear technology because of the Nano Foamä and a clean, customizable and comfortable look and feel.

Rebuilding the Ultimate Performance Goggles

The ID2 sets news standards for snow and mountain-specific eyewear with features necessary for peak performance including:

MOUNTAIN SPECIFIC QUICK CHANGE LENS SYSTEMä: In sports where conditions are constantly changing, the ID2 comes with a Quick Change Lens Systemä including flash-tinted mirror or subtle-tint lenses.  Pop in a new lens and you’re instantly adjusted to changing light or weather conditions – key for enhancing your performance no matter the time of day.

COMFORT: Long days on the mountain and possibly in bad weather require ultimate comfort.  Double layer foam allows for perfect stability and comfort on the wearer’s skin and a siliconized strap creates a customized fit, with or without a helmet or beanie, and it won’t tangle up with hair.  In addition, the shape and Flex Zonesä make the goggle helmet compatible so you can focus on your ride rather than your discomfort.

VENTILATION SYSTEM: The ID2’s ClimaCoolä ventilation system allows air to channel through strategically placed vents by directing air across the lens and away from the face thereby managing moisture and ensuring clear vision to enhance your ride.

CUSTOMIZATION: A detachable front part, made of SPXä acts as an ideal protector against lens scratching, and contributes to the spheric vision of the PC Twin Filter for optimum vision in extreme conditions.  A spare middle part is available in black and white, while replacement lens are available for customization.

STYLE: A wider woven strap plus two special straps with a real leather loop to go along with the washed colors of the front part hold the style-savvy wraparound goggles in place.
