Today marked was the second day of the Winter Dew Tour in Snow Basin, Utah.  Although the weather didn’t turn out as well as it did on day 1, all the athletes managed to throw down.  The day began with halfpipe practice and then qualifiers for both men and women.  Qualifiers were a sight not to be missed as the athletes threw down in the style we are accustomed to in halfpipe competitions this season.  Our boy, Justin Dorey, ended up landing in 1st place followed closely by Kevin Rolland, and Peter Olenick.  Simon placed fourth, but is sure to be turning up the heat for finals tomorrow.

In the women’s halfpipe qualifiers, Jen Hudak landed a nice run to take 1st place going into finals followed by our fellow Canadian shredders Roz G, and Sarah Burke.  This is the first contest for Sarah since her season-ending crash in X-Games slopestyle last season, but the way she was skiing today it was impossible to tell.

In the afternoon, another day of men’s slopestlyle practice got underway before the qualifiers tomorrow afternoon.

The course had been touched up the night before allowing the athletes to feel more comfortable in their runs and really get the course figured out.  Unfortunately the light was pretty flat which held back a lot of the athletes from testing out their harder tricks on the jumps.  Tomorrow there will be four hours of practice before the contest gets underway, so it is likely that we will see more doubles and bigger tricks being brought out then.

After the on-hill activities wrapped up for the day, a dozen or so athletes headed down to the Salomon Center in Ogden for a poster signing that consisted of the teams from Nike 6.0, Scott, Salomon, and Atomic.  There was a good turn out for the signing, after which the whole crew decided to test out indoor sky diving at the iFlyt facility within the Salomon Center.
