Smith Optics’ 2005-2006 Ski Team Heading into the 05-06 ski season, the Smith Ski Team is arguably the best collection of skiers ever assembled on one team. A glance at the newsstands this fall confirms that Smith Athletes are dominating the ski media as they are on the cover of every major ski magazine this season. Smith skiers Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and Mark Abma have taken home the Best Male Performance from the Powder Magazine Video Awards the last two years running. Add newcomer Eric Hjorleifson to the mix, whose opening segment in MSP’s The Hit List leaves him as a frontrunner for the ’06 award, and Smith is poised for a three year sweep of the most important individual award in freeskiing today. Smith athletes also represented well in TGR’s film The Tangerine Dream, as Sage once again earned the coveted opening segment, followed by the Olenick bros debut in the big mountains of AK. Smith Ski Team stalwarts C.R. Johnson, Sarah Burke, and Peter Olenick not only up the ante with their own film segments and cover shots, but also consistently represent Smith Optics on the X- Games podium as well. Veterans Chris Davenport and Micah Black are still on top of their game, and J.T. Holmes is going bigger than ever before. The Smith Optics’ Pro Team is rounded out by an impressive group of jibbers including Canadian stars Phil Larose and Phil Belanger, and Colorado legends Steele Spence and Greg Tuffelmire. This world class crew plays a big role in helping test and develop the Smith product line. Whether they are out spinning through the park in the new custom Fuse goggles, or skiing blower pow in the Prodigy Turbo fan with the new Sensor Mirror lens, the Smith ski team has a clear vision of what it takes to be and represent the best. Look for them in this year’s movies, magazines, and contests, as well as the front of the lineup on powder days at their local hill.
