US Grand Prix Slopestyle Qualifiers

Words & Photos: Ilanna Barkusky

Competition weather is definitely an interesting phenomenon, and it unfortunately reared its ugly head today. After two sunny and gorgeous days of practice, qualifiers went off today in less than stellar conditions. The day started off alright, but by the time competition began, the rails were sticky and the speed wasn't the best. At certain points, the snow was really coming down and at others, it was clear enough to see the highway from the course. All the girls and guys still put down excellent runs despite the conditions. Fingers crossed for a bit of an improvement in the weather for finals tomorrow!

Womens qualifiers went down first, and while the speed was a bit tricky, the girls still put down some great runs. Coming in first was Emma Dahlstrom with her smooth signature style, followed by Anouk Purnelle-Faniel from Canada and Johanne Killi from Norway. Shout out to Nikki Blackall for busting out a massive switch 5 truckdriver on the last jump, which was by far my favourite trick of the day.
