Outdoor Lifestyle Business Cuts To The Chase

A ski bum who left the mountains behind for a career in online marketing has come full circle by launching a money-saving website for outdoor activities.

Digital marketing specialist Ruth Plater came up with the idea for chasingair.com to make life easier for fellow enthusiasts of outdoor sports, such as skateboarding, skiing, snowboarding, climbing, camping, cycling and surfing.

The website works by comparing thousands of products across a range of global suppliers to help find the best possible prices from the best stores, on outdoor equipment and clothing.

Visitors can view special offers and redeem voucher codes for even more savings, plus they can add their favourite products to their own personal wish list, submit and read reviews and follow the latest news from the outdoor sports industry in a blog.

Ruth believes it’s a formula which will take the industry by storm. “Your typical skier, climber or surfer doesn’t want to spend time trawling around a city centre, surrounding themselves with crowds and traffic, but they do love their equipment,” said Ruth, 27, from Newcastle. “There’s very little choice and technical expertise on the high street but chasingair.com allows you to find the right gear with minimum fuss, whatever your sport or level of ability. We go to great lengths to identify, choose and manually upload each and every product, to guarantee the best choice for people.

“I’m confident the site will help people cut corners and save money, without having to sacrifice the activities they love.”

Ruth, an experienced skier and snowboarder who has tackled some of the most daunting slopes in the French Alps, is unfazed by her latest adventure. “I’ve got a lot riding on this - but pushing yourself is what it’s all about.”
