It's not an ad, it's an activist group funded PSA about Newschoolers. It's a part of their plea deal. Only, for it to be accurate the girl would need to be replaced by thousands of little boys and the man with a picture of the CEO.

This makes the most sense. I’ve never allowed any optional (i.e., targeted) NS cookies.

I would buy a hat but the markup on a hat is way less than an equivalent donation.
I have no clue what they are doing for donator status but people still buy them.
But, you are moving away from my point. NS can only operate with ads. You might be willing to give some money, but most aren't and most do not care. The internet is powered by ads, most do not understand this, using adblock is like going to a restaurant and expecting to get served food without paying.

with NS going independent, are those sites in ‘visit our other sites’ even relevant? lol also, the old twitter logo, tumblr, and google plus logo under follow us are also hilarious. google plus shut down 6 years ago but NS still has the logo for it lmao

Ya the Google Plus logo is great. The site is being completely re-done so I'm guessing they aren't wasting time with the old code.

We aren't very good at [remembering] small changes, mostly because current NS is about a million times more of a clusterfuck under the hood than it is on the surface. However, something BIG is coming.
We are going to re-enable the donator option soon, so anyone who wants to help out when we do so, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, sorry about the ads, they suck, we're hoping to figure out a cleaner solution.

The other forum I post on has the same set of ads pretty much all the time, and it’s all companies directly involved with that industry. Definitely no algorithm/ai controlling the ad content. It’s more like “site sponsors” rather than ads. Honestly it would make a lot of sense if the only ads on here were ski companies like surface, Vishnu, on3p etc. They also have a premium membership system where for a one time 40$ fee you get a bunch of perks

Endemic sponsors are great for ns, unfortunately most brands don't value ns as an advertiser, mostly because they push everything into social media ads.
Ad sense is used by everyone, it's a great way to generate revenue without having to actually sell that ad space.
