I swear it was someone on NS who got me into wanting a Tissot T Touch because altimeter etc but we don’t have a watch thread. Figured we’re due.
My Fossil seems to have mostly died so picked up a Citizen to match my wedding ring. Maybe someday will work my way up to a Datejust since a family friend suggested it to me lol maybe it can be a part of my 5 year plan.
Fellow tissot fan. Mine is the MotoGP limited edition. The bezel is supposed to look like the brake rotor and the sprockets on the face surrounding the chronos. Band is supposed to look like a motorcycle tire though that never made sense to me since Motogp bikes use slicks.

You need the Mickey mouse watch from Cartier. Would go well together with the apple watch
PartyBullshiitHonestly not a fan of Cartier watches.
Some of them are bit over rated. Their watches with the leather strap look cheap, looks like a Casio. Silver and Golden ones look fine but not really worth the price tag. My sister got one of their watches in the gold color for her graduation day.

My mother has a few with the floating diamonds that match the earrings and necklaces. They’re nice for fashion, just as a collectors watch they just aren’t my thing. There’s much better brands to buy.

Lol the dude with a cheap quartz tissot thinks Cartier is a fashion brand… too good.

While Casios may be cheap, this lil gold piece has gotten me more compliments and attention than anything ive ever worn, and thats saying something. Don't forget where swag come from, respect the elders
Granby_killdozerWhat’s next? You gonna show off some of your invictas?
Don’t worry keep your eyes peeled. Don’t own any invictas. Only reason I purchased the tissot was for the motogp collaboration as I’ve been a lifelong fan. It’s nothing special I get that.

i got this kolzkern watch cause i thought it was sick being made of wood. i do regret getting all black because if its made of wood, you should get something thats clearly wood and this isnt.

Keeping with the racing theme this is my Tag Kirium Ti5 McLaren MP4-16 edition. Limited to 999 it included replica parts from the f1 car’s suspension made of CF and Ti. McLaren has always been my favorite team in F1 so this was a very sentimental purchase. The band has 4 grooves like the f1 tires at the time with a CF face and Ti housing with McLaren branding.
I hate that omega Seamasters are so hard to find here, especially the non-quartz smaller size. Have been looking for one. Most used omegas are Speedmasters or something else. Haven't tried the 42mm one but it's probably too big for my 6.2 inch wrist.

Desk dive. Is there actually someone who dives with them these days? I was looking at rolex explorer but they are bit too expensive even as used and tbh bit boring for the price and I'm definitely not a rolex person. Dive watch fits my adventurous personality little bit more than your avarage watch person.

Ya here in Florida tons of people dive with them, Rolex submariners, panerai submersible among others. I use an actual dive computer on my wrist but a lot of the old heads love classic watch.
It was probably Laurent, that mf used to always be posting about watches and the really skinny models they'd be hanging out with in Amsterdam or something

I don't even know anyone who dives. Your waters are more interesting.
I really thought those classic dive watches were replaced by g-shock and rugged smart watches.

I believe g shock makes a dive watch but I’m not positive on that. No one uses smart watches as they’re not rated for actual diving and won’t survive. There are dive watches that have some smart functions but first and foremost they’re dive computers. Typically air intergraded so you can attach a sensor to your tank and know your air levels as well as full decompression tables. Typically if wearing a dive watch it will be in combo with a dive computer.
so how do you get into watches? if you have a rich dad and no hobbies or interests by the time you become an adult, does someone just automatically approach you and gets you started?
I think usually the rich dad or grandpa kicks off the hobby by giving the son watches for birthdays/graduation
There's also peer pressure in a lot of offices to get a watch. Watch people have been pretty pushy about me needing a watch when i mention that i don't have one

Good question, I’ve owned a few watches in the past but I’d say rarely have I ever worn a watch over the years. But when I found out my Fossil watch was dead when I wanted to wear a watch as a groomsman for my brother’s wedding, I did somehow feel naked (and let down) without one. So they do have their place in an outfit (or pool, dive, etc bcuz it is nice to not have to always pull out your phone which can lead to distractions…). When my wife’s friends husband told me I should get a Rolex suggesting a Datejust, I was stoked on the idea but it’s obviously stupid to spend as much $$ on a watch if you don’t wear them, so I have my Citizen and Tissot as starters, see if I get into the habit
nobody in my family is passing me a fancy watch, but if I had a dad who passed a nice watch on, I would probably wear them more for sure and be a bigger enthusiast. A lot of people wear watches but idk how many people bother to look that closely at someone’s watch, just nice if it fits an outfit

Money. Some think watches are pieces of art, some buy watches because of status, some got in to it because they needed a new watch and fell down the slippery slope.
I'm not like a huge watch person but I like them and I think mechanical watches are fascinating. And there was semi natural way in to it because of certain reasons.

For me it was racing. I’ve always loved auto and moto racing my entire life and most times major teams, drivers or riders were sponsored by a watch manufacturer and they usually made special editions.
I started looking at the various models made for teams etc and that got me into watches. From there I started to learn about other brands and unique styles or designs etc.
im still generally attracted to watches that have some sort of racing theme or driver/rider partnership but added a couple non race connected ones over the years.
I copped mine cause my grandpa always wore them and got bit by the bug after seeing the crazy movements in them. I’ve always been wowed by engineering stuff so cars and watches live in my head. I’ve skied with a bunch of them but mostly run a g shock so i don’t feel scared breaking it or worrying abt a replacement
