Anybody taking SSRI's?

Just got on them about 2.5 months now. Def is keeping me more stable but trying to navigate side effects and realizing drinking in excess with them can be weird lol.

10mg Lexapro

I've had pretty terrible depression and anxiety since I was 12. Got on some shit for a little in HS but did not vibe with therapist at all and dipped. This is my first time since trying to figure out my shit and stay living.

Never taken SSRIs myself but I have friends that they're really helped, and other and friends that they didn't work for at all.

One thing I've heard is that the dosing is more important than the drug. They're there to help you find balance and consistency and I know some people get really frustrated when trying to dial in the right dose that works for them. Too little has no effect and too much makes people feel like a zombie. Everyone is different and you gotta stick with it and work with your psychiatrist to figure out what works best for you.

The common theme I've seen online is that they really fuck with your libido but nobody I've known IRL has actually said that it was true for them.

No, I've just been waiting for the day where I could get on drugs with all kinds of side effects to fix my problems.

Yeah they have been so far. Unfortunately yeah a common report with people is some varying sexual side effects.

I had an appointment yesterday, been on Lexapro 10mg about 2.5 months. Been working pretty well. We discussed various side effects but in the end I decided its worth it to continue.

Added Wellbutrin to try and mitigate some side effects but just starting that so not sure how it'll go.

Basically still have some anxiety and depression issues but its way more balanced. Got back on healh insuramce and decided to get some help. Trying to live a few more years. Not sure that was gonna happen if I didn't do something now.

Not stoked to be taking med, not really the stigma but just having to remember. Also now when I travel I'm going to have to keep this shit with me and not lose it. Just an extra pain in the ass.

That said not being dead is cool so I'm trying to keep it that way.

True I feel that. I just started on Welbutrin. Only 2 days in, just taking a single till after tomorrow thwn 2 150mg a day. Hoping it adds to the depression help and has a good impact on the sexual side effects of the Lexapro. We shall see

Yeah, I'm taking 450 mg of Wellbutrin once a day in combination with Naltrexone and It has made a very noticeable positive difference. In commotion with those 2, I'm also taking Keppra but will stop the Keppra soon because it makes me feel unmotivated. But yeah I've tried a bunch of meds and Wellbutrin and Naltrexone really clicked with me.

Haha. I'm glad you can take a joke. In all seriousness for me exercising and eating well solves most of my depression issues. But I hear ya. Hope it works out for you.

I think SSRIs are good to reset chimical status in your brain and slowly make you forget the feelings that had you taking them.

I trust that there will be a point when you will be okay and will be able to stop taking them and continue living just as you were taking them.

I took them for months since I was feeling weird after a concussion and they helped me.

In my case I discovered with blood teata that they were causing me some liver issues (duloxetine).

The last time I went on Sertraline I shit my brains out like 10 times a day for about a month until I gave up. Probably should give it another go but it doesn’t sound very exciting

Drugs affect everyone differently. IMO there is no bad drug and you have to figure out what works for you. What works for me probably won't work for other people.
Fetty is the only truly bad drug IMO

True. I had issues with lexapro at the start but that side effect pretty much disappeared within a couple weeks/ the first month. First week I was like WTF? though.

But yeah different people react differently to things. Might have gone away if you kept on it, might not be the right one for you.

I was on Lexapro and Wellbutrin for about 6 months, and it was initially helpful, but I stopped taking them because I felt I was starting to disassociate. I also didn't like how if I missed a dose, I would be extremely emotional and unstable, which prompted me to stop taking them. If they're working for you, then keep on it! Best of luck on your mental health journey!

Quit asap and never take any SSRIs again is my advice dude they are poison in my opinion

I did for a period of about 1.5 years around 2015 during my sophomore year of uni. SSRIs were no bueno for me and marked the start of a multi year slow motion life crisis. I don’t necessarily blame the pills for this because a lot of people lose their minds during their college years and correlation != cause but I just ever so slightly started to feel like a shell of a person. I didn’t feel any psychoactive effects when taking the pills but by the time I stopped I had basically alienated myself from all of my friends, went from getting laid a decent amount to basically becoming an incel, destroyed my GPA, and generally felt “hollow” as a person. Then when I stopped the SSRI the self destructive behaviors went into turbo mode until I graduated. Once I got tf out of it was 2020 and everyone was losing their minds from all of the Covid strangeness and I kind of had this epiphany that having spent the past 4 years going crazy actually put me at huge advantage. I thought this because I saw how everyone around me was in the early stages of losing it and I had nothing else to lose (makes no sense ik), but after that I had a huge confidence boost, quit all of the drugs and antisocial behaviors, lied my way into the dream job in the field I went to school for and started getting better at life.

I mean life is still a nightmare but at least it’s funny and I genuinely have a positive attitude about it. Maybe instead of an SSRI I just needed a change of environment in first place…

True yeah that sucks. Honestly have heard some fucked things about people having bad luck with them or being forced to take them. Everyone is different. I kind of started taking them for a little in HS senior year but didn't take them for long enough to really do anything. Could have been a good thing or maybe they would have helped me. I don't know.

They're working pretty good for me so far. Still motivated to do shit. Worked hard at Mammoth in the spring then got everything set up with a new passport etc and went back to Africa for the summer. Kinda working 7 days a week for shit pay but I love this place and glad to be back.

I still have my issues for sure but I would get into some dark dark places. Working nights didn't help. I think it helps balance me out but other wise still feel normal. I just don't have the extremes.

Good to hear you dialed in life and got yourself in a good spot though. Cheers man!

No they interact with my brain chemistry incorrectly, I’m on anticonvulsant for mood regulation. I started with a SSRI but it made my anxiety skyrocket and depression worse, glad we have everything figured out now. Don’t be afraid to talk to your dr about what is and isn’t working with your meds.

Developed OCD during covid, ended up having to take one to get it under control (Citalopram). It worked, though it did make it harder to nut for a few months. Gonna try and get off it, just waiting for approval from Transport Canada, cause having a pilot's license complicates things significantly. They're not perfect, but saved my ass after the usual suggestions (touching grass, going to therapy, exercising consistently) didn't work.

It definitely makes them more helpful. And I found that the meds made it easier to do healthy habits more consistently. From what I understand, you use the meds to kinda jumpstart your mental health, so you can build healthy habits easier, and then the consistency takes over from the meds.

I take Zoloft for my anxiety. It started going good at first, but now I feel like it hasn’t solved everything. Thankfully I see my doctor next month for a physical so I can discuss with them where to go from here, but it’s definitely made me feel shitty most of the time thanks to lowered sex drive and increase in recent stomach problems that the meds have given me.

haven’t had a bad thought in a while but also haven’t really busted a nut in a while

I just got dropped down from 60mg though and I have recently even had a feeling or two now and then

I take fluvoxamine. I feel like it has the best side effect profile of SSRIs. It's a sigma 1 agonist which increases the levels of dopamine in the brain. Other SSRIs like fluoxetine are sigma 1 antagonists which lower the amount of dopamine in the brain. That can leave you feeling rather foggy.

I take it mainly to reduce the aggression and neurotoxicity from taking steroids. Definitely feel much calmer with less ruminating thoughts. No noticeable side effects other than not being able to cum sometimes. Combine it with cialis and possibly testosterone and you can fuck like crazy all night. Lol just saying.

absolutely did not work for my anxiety and the depressive episodes that went along with it. But ik a few people who it’s done wonders for! Keep a open mind, communicate with your doctor and be super mindful of drinking or smoking large amounts on Zoloft or Lexapro
