I have received an email today as an investor of Planks to say the company will no longer be able to operate as is does and is going into liquidation (UK terminology meaning they will cease to trade)
It’s a massive shame for the UK ski scene as they had given so much to GB Snowsports and UK athletes and started to get through to the USA too.
It worked out cheaper to buy their gear as an investor as it gave a flat 40% discount, so between 3 people buying gear it actually saved us money 😂 The anount invested was far less than the discounts I used
There are a few ski areas in Scotland. Just been low tide for the last few seasons. There was the indoor place in Glasgow but it closed down as far I remember, @Killamuffin_ may have some more info regarding that(and is da man!). A few dry slopes in England but I never was able to get to those when I lived there.

Scotland on top
I think one of the areas is called Glencoe from what I remember

So basically you contributed to their failed business plan
Super sad , it's the brand I like the most since it reminds me of my first season in France.
They where involved with the Tignes/Val communities as well.
But yeah, mad prices during season and you could get them for 60% in spring. Not a good business model I guess
hi_vis3601000 has been doomed since day 1, they have alienated what fans they had and have no target buyer to replace them
I see it differently.
I think target buyer of 1000skis are rich eurokids. How can you find them? Through Tiktok and IG reels spam advertisement. Our hills and fjälls here in the north are full of capeesh and harlaut kids, 1000skis are probably aiming at them. Everytime I see pair of 1000skis the human skiing on them is either a kid wearing full capeesh and harlaut (likely from norway) or someone from 1000skis crew.
Honestly I would probly ride 1000skis if they didn't cost so much. Why would I pay 900€ for 1000skis when I can get beautiful Pair of skis handmade in Finland for the same price.
I still like The Bunch and they seem like nice people. I Wouldn't count myself as a fan though.

There might be truth to this, but the biggest issue I see is having only having 3 models of the same ski. There's no depth to their company because its all based on the same shape/flex of one ski, just wider or narrower. Season Eqpt seems to be getting it right, several different skis and snowboards, along with several other types of products, plus a partnership with a company like Evo will get your product in front of the people who are ready to buy it. Is 1000 skis doomed? IMO thats up to them and if they decide to add some diversity to their product line up. If they don't its only matter of time. And unrelated, the red aint it

Vishnu started out with one model and then was able to successfully grow to the point where they could make more models. So I don't think that's the issue here. I think hi vis hit the nail on the head regarding their marketing

True, but from what I have seen they have done things very different than 1000. Almost all the guys from the Bunch left their ski sponsors to start 1000 skis. They have to do things differently in order to survive because of how many mouths they have to feed.
There are 4 decent areas in Scotland ; Nevis Range, Cairngorms, Glenshee and Glencoe. Plus many dry slopes around the country ( I worked at one) and several indoor snow centres.
But most of all thousands of brits head to the Alps every winter, go somewhere like Meribel and it must be weird being French as you’re way outnumbered!
Really sad to see Planks go, I’ve had 2 of their jackets and they were much better than the traditional brands. They seemed to be doing well supplying ski schools across Europe too.
There seemed to be a lot of sponsored skiers and offers around, maybe needed a harder business brain, or like North Face, sell to non-skiers too?

LOL right, they chose to give up their lucrative flow sponsorships to start up their own brand. Hilarious.
