Its a but ironic that they have to fake winter to host snowsports while being the highest producer of GHG. Even more hillarious is those cooling towers arent for nuclear power, but for a coal power plant. Basically, the reason why we dont have winters anymore.

as Fugazi said, "its not what their selling its what your buying." They might be the #1 producer of GHG, but assuming youre from the US, we are their #1 supporters (alongside many other western countries. I think Americans need to start taking accountability for enabling China's nefarious manufacturing- as it wouldn't exist without us. We are just as much to blame, but we don't feel like we're at fault because we are removed from it physically and "don't allow" it on our land. We just allow our businesses to outsource manufacturing to slave labor plants in china. It's easy to say China's a fucked up place to allow all this shit- but forreal we're just as accountable for supporting it.

Lmao it’s for a coal plant? I thought it was nuclear. That’s fuckin hilarious

Its neither. Its a decommissioned steel mill. They are still proud of what the industrial revolution in china did for them so upon decommissioning it for the summer games to reduce the smog they turned it into this weird art and market district. I guess theres all these industrial buildings with like grass and sculptures between them lol.
VTshredder69yea but the USA has to go green to save the planet.
fuck off
lol China is the worlds largest producer of hydro, solar, and wind energy. 26% of their power comes from renewable energy compared to 17% in the us (2019 numbers). The US lifestyle (huge generalization) is the most resource intensive in the word due to the consumerism and exploitation of third world countries.
it was mentioned above but a lot of countries with worse GHG output than the US and western world are doing so to make products for the US and western world and are not living the resource intensive lifestyles. Theyre mostly poor as fuck people who typically struggle to get 3 meals a day vs all of us on this website who go on ski trips and participate in a leisure/recreation industry.

well it's our faults for buying shit from China then! USA also has the largest EV company on the planet. But lets not give ourselves credit for that! China still has more than double the C02 emission than the USA does.

Correct.
Now everyone take a look at who was selling us out to China for the last few decades and then take a look at who was called anti-globalism alarmists the whole time.
Am I the only one who remembers when they used to do big air competitions in the middle of metropolitan areas?? I don't understand why this has become such a hot topic online, like we've seen this before

Ya na, i dont think its about “who” specifically is selling us out. Its not just one person, its not just one group of people. Its way bigger than that. And at the end of the day, were all accountable as americans. We all buy the goods. We all let it happen.
Trying to seek out these “who’s and theys” just leads us down political rabbit holes and strays away from the actual problem. And it really just comes down to people will do whatever they can to make as much money as they can and lie to justify it. And we as consumers are too apathetic to how our products were made. We just want the new cool thing or whatever is cheapest.

Yeah but it’s not in the middle of the city it’s in the middle of what looks like a dystopian wasteland. Maga.
What makes it funnier that the jump is a permanent structure. Its just a bunch of scaffolding like the other urban big area venues. Of all the places to invest loads of money into and possibly use for future events this is where they picked. So much for using the Olympics to show off the beauty of a nation and culture.

Lol your talking about Tesla right? The same company that opened a factory in China last year to cut prices.
also Yes china has double the ghg but they also have like 5 times more people. Per person, the US is drastically more resource intensive and emit way more GHG. But hey dont take my word for it, heres a graph from the UN

It's our fault for buying so much shit in general not just China. As long as we keep consuming somewhere will have to produce it and pollution levels just get moved elsewhere.

Per capita data is really convenient when you have masses of people living in tightly controlled environments that they have no choice but to be in.

Ya na. it absolutely is about who specifically because many of these hobgoblins are still alive, in positions of power and inflicting their poor decisions on others and people should be held accountable for their actions. Selling out our country to communists who enslave their citizens and treat them dogshit shouldn't be filed away in the forgive and forget folder.
And speak for yourself about being a consoomer. My car is old enough to drink, my phone is 3 years old, my closest is filled logo-free, non-slave made clothing. Most of my belongings are buy it for life type shit that's made in America or places that aren't china.
You don't want to point fingers because you probably wouldn't like who they'd point at. One would be at yourself for being an enabler of the system, and the others would be at people you've probably admired in some capacity or thought they had your best interests and well being in mind.
All sides of "the aisle", all parties, all institutions.
How are you starting to solve this problem tomorrow? What are you doing to fix this?

Maybe I should rephrase that it is AS MUCH about who specifically as it is about everyone participating and that includes regular ass consumers. I don’t need to defend myself to you but I definitely understand that every purchase is a political choice with repercussions and I choose to act accordingly.
That said, I know I’m part of a greater system that is oppresive so I’m not going to sit here and call myself a saint and I know that you have no right to do that either. You already said your driving a car, are you gonna tell me oil trade isn't a destructive nefarious industry?
Look, im not trying to argue with you. The whole point of my initial statement is that we all need to examine ourselves and what we buy. If you’re doing the right thing thats awesome! Sure, there’s fucking terrible people on top, but they woudn’t be there without regular people apathetically or unknowingly supporting them. Thats the essence of what im saying. Im not trying to get in a little he said/she said argument with you at all.

to answer your question, what we can do is try our best to source our food and goods locally, try not to rely on gas, take only what we need, and give when we have extra. Thats a cute sentiment and easier said than done of course. But thats what we can do.
Anyways, it really seems we fundamentally agree.
And yes, its fucking terrible there are people on top have no issue directly sourcing slave labor among other destructive business practices.
but as citizens and consumers we need to be aware of this and make a choice- do we continue to buy from these companies and suppirt these businesses, or seek alternatives?
the sad reality is most people are aware that slave labor exists and their favorite companies manufacture from such plants and yet people choose to continue buying the same shit and in turn supporting slave labor and the people directly sourcing it.
so yeah, i think the consumer is equally responsible for interment camps existence albeit not directly implementing slave labor.
In all seriousness who is giving us China's emmission info? is that coming from their government? If that's the case I wouldn't trust it. Same with Russia.
hell I don't even trust the USA government.

oh hell, that's very edgy of you, to not even trust the USA government.
But yeah, its a good question. I know that there are/have been researchers who do studies to track emissions- and MIT confirmed China's emissions fell in 2014 after China began to place emission limits. So I would assume it is researchers who investigate and track the emissions around the world who are not directly affiliated with government; or at least that has been the case sometimes. But yeah, if a country is actively trying to be secretive about their emissions, I'm not sure how the investigators go about getting the info.
But yeah, at least we know that in 2014 when China said they implemented restrictions on emissions they weren't lying- so there's a semblance of hope

Idk if it's exactly what they do but they may be able to do spectroscopy via satellite, or interpolation of energy needs and energy supply methods. I bet it's more accurate than not all things considered
