Replying to Full Tilt First Chair 120 - alterations
Hi all - I’m sure this type of question has been asked multiple times but just wanted some advise - preferably from a boot fitter.
Recently came back from a weeks trip in Italy and decided I’d like a pair of boots that fit my feet better than those in rental shops.
I have a trip in April to Chamonix and since coming back I’ve been browsing the internet for boots. I know the advise is to go to a boot fitter and get recommended boots by a professional. I haven’t got many ski shops near me - nearest is a snow & rock, that I’m looking to book an appointment in. I bought a pair of FT First Chair 120’s after a bit of research and noticing there was only 1 pair in stock (in my size) and that they aren’t stocked near me. I wanted to buy a pair just to see how they fit, sizing etc. I bought 28.5 FT’s and initially I thought they were slightly small however when in a normal ski position the pressure is relieved and ankle slips further back.
This is where my questions lie, I can noticeably feel the J bar on the outside of left ankle, is this something that could be pushed out / removed if the shell is moulded? I’ve read & seen in hand that there is no footbed - how does this alter the fit of the boot when a custom one is made, make it tighter on the toes / feet? Does moulding the shell also impact the fit or does it improve it?
I’m looking at going to snow & rock in a couple weeks but wanted some guidance prior. If I was to keep the FT’s I’d have them fit over in France in case of further alterations when skiing.
Any help is appreciated :D
