I have owned two pairs, most of my friends ride them and every time anyone lands a trick or falls it's always exciting to see what the binding will do. sometimes the brake will snap off, or the sole length adjustment will loose grip and max out. probably the craziest thing I saw was a kid landing switch on the tips of his skis and instead of the bindings ejecting both of the toe pieces just popped off. Skiing on squires is just a big gamble every time you step in and I love it, they might break, work as intended or just make everyone's day by doing some wacky shit no one expected.

The nice thing about squires is you can crank the din and forward pressure because the binding will break before your knees do

I know we're doing sarcasm, but I got a free pair of squires, and I'm a really small dude so I mounted em on an extra set of skis, as I'd figured they'd be good enough for cruising, and I'm cheap. Those son-of-a-bitches were god damn booby traps. Ripped the toe piece straight off the ski just skiing relatively mellow bumps. There's literally a piece of plastic the size of a quarter that holds the binding to the top sheet. Dumbest fucking design.

lol no hate but I literally watched some kid explode his squires this weekend after landing a jump switch. I did the same back in 2017 too

It’s like Russian roulette, I would have both heel and toe set to 8, at the end of the day they would all be different, and the heel pieces are made of literal tissue paper

tyrolia attack 13s are around the same price and much better. that's my bet if you're looking for a cheap binding

Yeah I got those on some other pair but every shop recommending me squires and say they’re great but all I hear around is about how they break

Yes def get squires the dins are the tensile strength of the screws that attach the toe piece to the ski

Too bad they redesigned it for this year and I've heard the fine factor is just not there. The don't make that great squire snapping crunchy sound they used to make.

I just mounted a pair for a friend...so we'll see but to be fair they are going to be ridden by a 9yo kid.

Absolutely the biggest POS binding ever made. Marker should have some liability for injuries with these plastic, “freestyle” binding

Obviously squires don’t hold up to freestyle abuse. But are they actually a bad binding for lighter skiers? I just mounted up my mom’s new skis with squires. And they seemed pretty good. She rips hard but does jump so it should be fine

Skied 3 seasons with squire 11s. 6', 150lbs park only. Destroyed 1 brake but thats all. Getting more serious about skiing I wanted to upgrade my gear and replaced them with attack 13. Have to admit they feel million times nicer in all aspects lol

The new version are supposed to be vastly improved according to a few shop techs, they are not breaking and failing like the old units did. I mounted a pair on a friend's son's skis a couple weeks ago and they seemed pretty solid.

i keep an extra set in my truck. im on my third set in 5 years and just replace the parts that get damaged from use and abuse. once the brakes stripped from their mounting ports becuast the plate cracked, another time the forward pressure spring stripped against its adjustment track. both times the failure was my fault. i got two sets from sportinglife in collingwood at the end of the season for like $200. seriously, the value for price is through the roof.

they are crazy light, like kingpin light. for me, they work better with trekkers than a frame binding like baron epf or guardians. i dont really do long approach stuff.

easy to dial in the settings.

once again, id rather have a $150 binding break over a $800 pair of skis or my knees. my gf blew our her mcl this week on sth with her dins at 4.

i know this post is supposed to be funny, but you guys are not looking at the situation logically. its like the kids at skate parks with expensive graphic decks, trucks and wheels. why are you paying extra for consumables if the performance isnt actually any better. all bindings/boots/skis will eventually wear out. lets say, hypothetically, pivots last 100 days of hard skiing; if squires last anything more than 50 they are already worth the price.

people who downvote this have more money than brains.

you see shops have this thing called financial incentive where they do what they call upselling in order to push the customer to purchase a more expensive product regardless of increased performance. Fr tho the newer squires look a lot better than the last gen ones but it kinda seems like they were adding things that the attacks/STH's have had for years such a a 2 part heel piece.

Boiling down the value of a product by days lasted per dollar is smooth brain behavior. Pre released to broken neck but the bindings lasted more days per dollar so still worth it (if you have free healthcare and don't mind decreased quality of life after injury)

That’s one way to look at it. risk assessment is a big part of skiing. If you don’t trust squires to hold up on something you might break your neck, then don’t get them.

on the other hand, I don’t trust any gear with my life, nor should anyone.

Ok I am going to pose a serious question here cause y’all are giving me some anxiety. I ski warden 11s and squires my Dins are set at 10 on both. I am 5’6 190 and I ski pretty hard all mountain. In the park not so much but decently hard . Should I get new bindings? I haven’t had a problem but is this a ticking time bomb? The last thing I want is for my ski to come off in the backcountry or on the steeps .

You're pushing both of those bindings to their limits. If you're consistently riding with your dins set at 10 and approach 200lbs fully kitted out I would seriously suggest looking at a 16 din binding or that range; attacks are now 17, pivots 15, not sure if STH have a binding between the 13 and 18.

I have encountered 4 pairs of mark squires between me and friends owning them and 3 of those pairs have had problems but the one of them was completely fine, so you might have a lucky pair that doesn’t have issues. With that being said 10 dins is high for squires so I would be careful.

they seem like they will be heavy. the biggest downfall of knee bindings was the weight and price (imo)
