COP Pipe Comp

So does anyone know anymore about this thing? I cant get a hold of abfreestyle, so if anything knows anything that would be good. Im hoping that they dont have some stupid rule again about not being able to invert unless you go to the ramps.

yup they do, and thats not really that dumb of a rule, it just prevents a lot of injuries and saves ab freestyle a lot of money, but u can stryle do off axis like cork, flat, or bio

i dont think that rule is fair, because for one people should know their own limits and be responsible for themselves, and secondly it is not fair for skiers who didnt go to water ramps. it makes the competition completely biased and unfair. screw that, i say put the free back in freestyle

Yes and ABfreestyle said the same thing- 'no inverts.' Are you sure you can even do flatspins and corks and stuff. In one way this is good so then a person could at least do some stuff, yet this would make their rule even stupider. You can easily get hurt just as bad doing any spinning or flat/corked stuff as you can inverting. And where does the line get drawn on this rule: somebody might do a corked 7 where they are more inverted compared to some. And a flair/underflip is the easiest pipe trick there is, yet your not allowed.
NOt only all this, but how can you even qualify a halfpipe invert on a waterramp? How will they know that just because you can backflip or dspin 7 going straight that you will be able to take it into the halfpipe.

Ive had an ongoing battle with abfreestyle for a bit and have written a few letters. Last year things seemed to go better when orage moved in and took over insurance, but I personally think that abfreestyle is the biggest crock a shit out there. Yes they might do some good for some people (perhaps more good than they really deserve,) while others just get left behind because of some stupid regulations. I know that it has to do with insurance and who they use, but orage didnt seem to have a problem doing it.

I must reiterate that I dont enjoy abfreestyle, and that I for one wont be at the halfpipe comp now, even though I would like to actually get the chance to compete on an even scale.

i think your friend might be a little lost. Yes, it was alot of teamsters, and yes there were a fair number of kids not getting out of the lip, but hey - everybody starts somewhere. There was also some really big stuff being thrown too. Some huge flatspins and some sick corks......it was definately worth checking out. Even Jordan Monk took a few runs

who gives a shit about rules anyway, for al;l the judges know, u did go to water ramps, i did switch rodeos last year and i hadnt 'quqalified' them. they arent that smart, and also about that orage, they didnt take over abfreestyle insurance, ab freestyles insurance took over orage. the only thing i ahve to complain about ab freestyle is there judging, it BLOWS! they dont even know what they are doing, they cant tell the difference between a misty and a lincoln

the people in that comp sucked. 90% weren't airing out, and its was all teamsters from southeren and red deer. you all suck. bringing you racing and freestyle mogul mentality to freeriding, you all got fat ass coaches who tell you how to do shit that haven't even tried the shit there tellin you to do. your all abunch of cocky ass wankers. team freeskiers are bitches.

You could be right about the judges not knowing, and if I was around I probably would of came and did stuff that was 'illegal.' I hear there is another one next Friday too. However, I remember in at Canyon two years ago at a big air they said I would get red carded. Then I cared cause I figured that abfreestyle would be a way to compete and show a little bit what I got, to say I guess. Now I dont and am actually wanting to go their and make some people mad- by doing 'illegal' manuevers.

Anyway, this is beside the fact. Abfreestyle is retarded, and from the sounds of it so was this comp. I realize that kids do have to learn and start somewhere, but why should these, at this point, fairly untalented kids get to take the place of other guys, just because they signed into abfreestyle, therefore FIS, and therefore into a regression of freestyle/ride.

And as far as the insurance goes. I dont really know how it all went with abfreestyle and Orage, but why was Orage able to put on a decent comp, while abfreestyle sits there and is content with what they are doing. I know that abfreestyle was also a part of those Orage comps, but I would like to know what happened that suddenly everyone and anyone was able to compete on an even scale.

if you are talking about me, not directly, i totally agree with what you said, i was about to reply saying i felt the same way, when i thought that skiing is about fun and it is dumb to let a stupid contest get you worked up even if it is crap. i thought i'd try to lighten it up, because it is all about having fun.

to the cock who said everyoine in freestyle is gay, ya 90% of the peoplecant air but thats just for the fun of competing i know i started there and know ive graduated to sponsors and stuff and almost all the results that hooked me up are from freestyle, its not that bad, ya the judging pisses u off a lot but who gives 2 shits, its still fun. and ya right all freestylers are cocky ass kids, some of them are, but there are way more in just normal freeskiing. so go ahead and beak, freestyle has brought me to where i am, and im only gonna progress ( actually im leaving next year to ski on my own) but freestyle started me off and its a great way to get into freeskiing, u progress much faster

Yup, see this is where my standpoint kind of comes in and is where I am getting at. I know that abfreestyle is good for some people, in fact, and like I already said, does perhaps almost too much good for some others. This isnt a hit at you or anything, but you might kind of know what I am trying to say. However, what I am saying, is that due to the way abfreestyle is run, they basically make sure that the people who do not choose the way of their programs and just do their own thing, but would still like to compete and maybe showcase their own talent a bit, dont get a real chance to. That is my point.

I know that I might be getting a little worked up about this, but I have been, as far as Alberta goes, doing this more or less from the start, and Im only seeing skiing being pushed in the wrong direction now. I would just like to see some changes occur in the governing of skiing in Alberta. Before it goes the way of moguls and aerials. And yes I would have to say that there seems to be a bit of an attitude out of some people.

I also think that competitions can be fairly fun, the orage ones anyway, and that might be why Im sounding somewhat- we'll call it frustrated.

ab freestyle is so unfair, thye've taken the free outta freestyle, qualifying tricks(what the fuck is that), some of us have to work all summer so we can still ski in the winter and when we have dumb fucks telling us we can't do this trick, and we can't practice on their jumps(Red deer in particular, i offered to help them cut up the landing and clean the in-run in exchange for use of the jump and they said no cause they were being paid to coach(i didn't want to be coached by that goober).How do the water ramps work anyways do they make you qualify a rodeo 7, switch rodeo seven and rodeo 9 all individualy or what?

I'm pretty sure u don't have to do anything for rodeos, since you don't go directly inverted with them, from what i understand its just when your feet go over your head, and ab freestyle and central alberta freestlye are 2 difrent teams, the main diffrence 95% of all riders on Central alberta don't even deserve to ski... literly

Well anyone that wants to should come out on Friday, as I believe they are having another pipe comp at COP again. I think i will go in it, and like little mini said just flip anyway. Hopefully, they wont notice, but it would be kind of funny if they did, and if a lot of people do it then it would definetly be funny. Show abfreestyle how incompetent they really are.

whats the deal with abfreestyle sanctioning these events? i think cop and some ski shops or companies, should form an organization like orage did with the big air series

You dont have to compete in their comps, but the fact that they actually care enough to organize that stuff, and they do it on the East coast too, shows that they are a really progressive company, and generally seem to care about the skiers. I for one know what kind of coat I am getting next time I need a new one. And since we all need shirts and shorts and pants, why not buy some of there stuff.

Today I talked a little to abfreestyle, and although the Lady (cara I think) was really nice, what she had to say was somewhat ironic. So the halfpipe comp tomorrow at COP is 70 dollars to enter, mostly due to insurance. The Orage ones this year are going to be 25. Now as she told me, the reason for this is due to the fact that the insurance company, and the same one insures both, feels that the pure abfreestyle ones are a higher level of competition than the Orage ones. Now from what I heard, this was definetly not true at Cop, and it definetly wasnt two years ago at Canyon. So who was at the Lake Louise Orage big air last year? Im guessing that the skiers there and the fact that they have prize money as a motivator is 4 times the higher level competition. Can you see the irony? hmmmmmmm

ya thats the problem with freestyle, u pay to get in and u get nothing if u win (yes i know that rhymed)where as orage u pay less and u still get a cahs prize for winning, thats y if ur not in freestyle, dont go in freestyle events, the only reason we do it is to get into nationals and for extra results for rresumes

Just because we're not on freestyle teams dishing out tons of cash, doesnt mean we dont deserve the same sponsors as you guys. But since we can't do what we are capable of in these competitions, its hard to win. Therefore, AB freestyle is trying to 'keep it in the family'. Winning these competitions arent as hard as Orage or an 'open' event because EVERYONE can go in them and throw what they want, not what the judges tell them they can.
