Want to write a paper for my English class on ski bums. Does anyone have any good sources with videos or books or anything like that? I ski and love it but want to read and learn more about the culture of it

First link really old weird but got good facts on the timeline of skiing. The second link is a case study on Colorado ski areas its got a nice section on page 257 all about ski bums and the definition mainly talking about money and where ski bums come from and their feelings towards the mountain.

I would recommend sections from The Story of Modern Skiing by John Fry. He covers a-lot on the roots of skiing culture and how the "ski bum" culture came about. He also overviews a great general history of skiing and equipment as well. Definitely a great resource for a paper.

On the face of it, ski culture specifically Newschool culture is pointless. It’s not marketable like other action sports: skating and surfing come to mind as sports who’s culture and brands have success in broad demographics. Even snowboarding is more lucrative; ask someone who their favorite skier is and they might say Shaun White. Even in the more abstract discussion of cultural capital; freeskiing doesn’t gain me anything. Our sport and culture are so far out of the mainstream view that our athletes don’t get paid, our style isn’t admired, and our art is insolvent. In some ways that makes what we do more pure. Ski culture is driven by the desire to ski. You won’t get rich or famous and nobody save a few dumbasses who still use internet forums in 2021 will remember your name. Skiing endures.
