Film.Imagine my shock that a bunch of kids on a website that focuses on an individualistic sport have zero idea about the morals and values of team, and what it means to be on one.
Quitting is not courageous, I hope you learn that one day.
Here is the easy way to tell when people haven't actually played sports at a high level.
If it came down to the final moment, or action of the game- a penalty shootout, the last play, the field goal, etc. etc... and the best player in whatever team sport you play, who is supposed to do any of those things I mentioned comes up and says "I'm off today, I'm hurting too much from the last game, my mind is in a weird place" to the coach or the organization, no coach or organization is going to say "fuck you pussy get back out there and miss another pk or field goal...like you have been missing all game".
Any coach or organization worth anything is going to say "okay, you are literally one of the top .01% of the world that does this, I'm going to trust your judgment...which is okay because the next person up also happens to be one of the best in the world."
So there's that...
And also, for the whole "she is letting down her team or her country" crowd...is she not like, the winningest female gymnast in history? I mean, geez, how many more gold medals than 25 do you have to win to be able to say "I'm off today. Sitting this one out".
Whole lot of non gold medal having asses sitting over here calling other people quitters when like, if you played a sport, and don't play it now...aren't you a quitter too? Just without the gold medals? Why didn't you become an Olympian in whatever sport you played. Did you just quit? Because you were a coward?
Film.He didn't quit in the middle of the competition, he let people know before the events started and gave them plenty of time to find other players to fill his spot.
Unless I'm missing something, somebody did take her spot tho? So not sure what you're so triggered about, she sat down, an alternate was ready and stepped up, we did fill her fucking spot, no?
There is just no rational reason for you to be so mad about it.
"Athletes should risk their wellbeing for gold medals so I can brag about it from my couch, they owe it to me and the motherland" you're so fucking cringe.
It's fucking sports, go get worked up about real issues dude.
LonelyWhat's the highest level you played sports at?
If you are gonna make the “you can’t critique athletes unless you play at their level” argument go ahead and have everyone fired at ESPN, there wouldn’t be a single sports radio talk show or even announcer for that matter. The announcers often make critiques in the middle of sporting events because just watching the score is boring as fuck. You don’t need an announcer in a sport like basketball just show the score and let the referees talk when there’s a foul. That’s sport in the purest game, and it would outright suck to watch.
Film. You don't call yourself the goat then sit out and watch your team win silver, you step up to the plate and win gold, or you lose and take responsibility for the loss like any LEADER does on a team. Go for broke, don't go for second, I thought thats been the entire US olympics team outlook forever? Look all I'm saying is if she sat out and said "I just wasn't in the right head space I feel like I let my team down." Like all NHL captains do after a playoff game loss, we wouldn't be here right now. I would say wow that's totally understandable and admirable. It's the praise she is getting for quitting MID EVENT that is making my head explode. I understand there is pressure, we are human, but it's not "brave" it's not "heroic." It's an amazing athlete falling short, something that has happened to every sports great in their career. But quitting is not more admirable than losing and it never will be.

Film.Suni Lee with an absolute amazing performance. True champion, let’s go USA! 🇺🇸
Compare Lee's resume with Biles'. They don't compare.
But you got you precious gold medal. You trashed one of the top athlete's this country has produced in any sport by throwing your little tantrum; but there you go, you got your little gold. You can move along now.

You should specify that she is a true champion today. Because per your logic it doesn't really matter if she gets 17 gold medals today, if she has the audacity of sitting down for an event 6 years for now, then fuck her, no longer a champion, just a loser/pussy, unworthy of sharing a passport with you, right?

You seem really pressed that I gave praise to another American for winning gold. Unpatriotic much?

Wow sounds like you are critiquing Lee's gymnastics skills, since you can not perform the moves she does, you can not critique her gymnastic skills. Got it you lazy coach potato?

I wasn't, I was asking because you seem to not have any idea how team sports work at a higher level and have just watched maybe a little too much hollywood.
If you are literally, by all metrics, the best in the world at your sport and by your judgment, you are not in the right space mentally, or physically to compete at the level required- it is expected of you and your responsibility to understand that, and potentially withdraw to let one of the other people on your team who is also one of the best in the world in that sport, take your place and potentially perform better.
It benefits no one, not the team, not the country, or you if the best gymnast in the world was aware that she was having a bad day, and chose to compete anyways and ends up losing...even though she likely knows whether or not she is going to perform well better than literally anyone else.
If it ever went to PK shoot-outs, in the most important game of the season, and one of our shooters came up to me and said "because of some physical and mental shit, I won't be able to perform well, put someone else in" no one in their right mind would say "fuck you pussy, go take the shot anyway and miss". I'm going to put one of my other shooters in that is also an amazing player.
Your inability to understand this is why I'm inclined to believe that you were never involved in any team sport at an even sort of high level. I don't give a shit about critiquing athletes if you ain't as good as them. I just take issue with your ass-backwards logic that departs from anything that I have known to be true in any of the sports that I played.
That being said, you didn't answer my question. If you don't believe in quitting why aren't you still doing literally any sport or activity that you used to do. Why aren't you just sucking it up and still working at it?

Lol if I’m in a team sport and my best player has been playing like shit and then decides to sit out the final because they think the substitute would perform better, I’m not gonna question it. Idk why you aren’t considering the fact that she was already starting to perform badly, she’s one of the best gymnasts in the world so if anybody knows when they gotta sit out it’s her.
i really thought the uswnt was going to lose to the netherlands. Miedema is probably the best player in the world atm and europe is catching the us in womens sports. the golden age is dying as more womens sports are supported around the world
I wrote a giant wall of text on this yesterday, did some thinking and thought about it. This is the conclusion I came to. Athletes are people. Dropping out of the Olympics does not make Simone Bile a bad person, but it does affect her legacy as an athlete. Champions are champions because they pull through and handle the pressure. Simone Biles wore a GOAT icon on her jersey, and then chose to drop out. There isn't a single GOAT of any sport who would have done that. Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, or any of the other GOATs are champions because of how they handle adversity and overcame it. Maybe I don't agree with what she did wasn't the right way to phrase it, but if I were an athlete of her caliber in her place, I can't imagine not competing that evening where she decided to drop out.

Michael Jordan literally retired in the middle of his career after a three peat and at the peak of his powers in part due to his father's death and lack of motivation. Those are both mental health.
Simone has a track record of pushing through adversity like a broken toe at Nationals or when she had a kidney stone at World Championships. She won both events. That should give even more gravity to what she's dealing with right now that caused her to drop out. This is easily the biggest stage for gymnastics no question and success at the Olympics determines a ton of financial health in the future for a lot of these athletes not to mention the competitive drive. Her strength in this decision lies in prioritizing her health and listening to herself in the face of every other factor pushing her to compete.
In the team comp she dropped out to give her teammates a better shot at a medal, in which they still won silver. Putting your teammates before yourself and trusting them to step up is part of what makes a GOAT. Relinquishing that control you have on the outcome is hard as an athlete especially at the elite level where you're the best. MJ had Steve Kerr take the final shot in Game 6 and Brady is ranked 7th in Super Bowl quarterback ratings. Gymnastics is much less of a team sport so you don't really get cover and you don't get second chances. If it were a team sport, maybe she'd receive praise for the team silver or for Suni Lee's gold because she stepped aside knowing she couldn't perform.
Maybe it was a bit premature of Simone to wear a goat on her suit. Maybe it was an attempt to project confidence and convince herself she had this. Maybe it was a marketing/branding play by her publicity team. She is the best female gymnast in the world and the most dominant one we've ever seen and has four skills named after her so she does have a valid claim to be the goat. I'm sure she wanted nothing more than to prove it outright with gold medals in Tokyo. Maybe this will be a blemish on her legacy when time washes away the context and roots of her struggles but should it?

There's an answer as to why now. Not sure why nobody is talking about this?

Henrik Harlaut dropped out of xgames slope this year and most people respected the decision. I think people are obsessing over this thing too much.

Lol its pretty hilarious to see sir francis bitchboy, in character once again, as a gaping fucking vagina lol
but you right. Biles got “the twisties” which means that she either hallucinated that she was on her period, or shes one the worst fucking gymnasts in history.
for a gymanast to say they lost their ability to keep airborn coordination (the twisties) is like henrik saying he had to drop out of big air because he was afraid he was gonna lose coordination in mid air.
The only things meant by “the twisties” are the following:
1. Youre a premadonna and you quit to get more attention
r00kieFinke again!!! Dude makes distance swimming exciting to watch. I think I now have a favorite athlete for this games.
Fink was impressive but dressler is more impressive to me. He fucking held his breath the entire 50 free.
also they showed a clip of dressler jumping up in the air to max his vertical leap (in a short race like the 50 free the distance you can jump off the platform is very important) and he jumped pretty damn high. I bet he would be pretty capable in a fight.
