Just bought a 1985 Toyota 4Runner hard body from RC4WD.
any suggestions on paint colors/weathering patterns I should do?
im just looking for ideas to hopefully inspire myself.
Well personally I think the 87 decals were the most timeless, but idk browse around obv the brown orange yellow is kind of the standard for racing and factory repping for those.
Idahoehow much does it cost to get into this sorta thing? looks pretty cool
Everyone hates this response, but it really depends.
that body was $167, and that comes completely disassembled and I will most likely spend another $50 on paints and accessories completing it as I go.
As for the frame, I’m putting it on an SCX10 II, which is $330, and I need a $50 adapter kit to mount this body because the body is made by RC4WD and the frame is made by Axial.
overall, it really just depends on how committed you are.

True, I should have clarified im going for a weekend warrior/ shitbox look for this one. Maybe multicolored panels, some wear and tear.
this truck (image attatched) kind of grabbed my eye. Idk what it is about it but these three colors go so well on Toyota’s.

It depends on how much you want to get into it. You can get a 1/24 scale SCX24 for about $180. Most 1/10 rigs that are worthwhile are in the $300 to $400 range. I have a Traxxas TRX4 Sport and its a beast with some mods. RC scale crawling is so much fun. I didnt realize it when I bought my rig but Palmer Park in Colorado Springs is basically the mecca for RC crawling. Every time I go I run into 2-3 other people mobbing around on the rocks.
daytactic7This one looks cool to replicate as well
That thing looks sweet and some 1.9 tires would give it that look. Here is my rig, its the stock body but I beat on it pretty hard crawling so I probably wont be too elaborate on the next body paint job. I put a pretty sweet custom light kit on it since these, Ill have to put some updated photos.

SCX24 is the way to go if you don't want to jump in the wallet drain of 1/10 scale.
