I’m sure everybody has seen the Toyota add by now with some guy in full dh kit on a Walmart bike. You think they planned it to be cringe so they could get all the reposts? Or do they really not have a clue?
It's not for us. The demographic that buys new 4runners is soccer moms whose husbands refuse to buy an AWD minivan. Nerds everywhere will get all wElL AcKtUaLlY about it but they're not the ones buying.
For some reason I thought Toyotas were half decent. But my Jeep is in the shop getting worked on and the loaner I have is a new Rav 4 and holy shit it is the cheapest feeling plasticky fart can POS of a car I have been in since I was a kid. WTF Toyota.
ReturnToMonkeyOld Toyotas are better. I'd say pre 2010s
Yeah man my dad had a 2011 4 runner and he got ride of it after 3 months because the fukasima wiring was causing all sorts of problems with the computers and brakes and engine

I had a 83 4x4 Toyota pu and it was easy to work on wich was a good thing because all I did was work on it, transmissions, cylinder heads, si many other things would go wrong but it was great off road.

Well the rav4 has always been stupid. I am just kind of disappointed they haven’t come out with a 4Runner with any guts in the last 10 years. For 70k it should be pushing 400HP they have gotten too expensive for what they are

What jeep is comparable to a rav4 these days? Renegade? Patriot? Both of those vehicles were pure shite. Rav4 is entry level, cheap to run though and will go for a long time.
4Runners are a huge profit generator for Toyota, they're like full size trucks for the big three...just make the interior a little nicer offer a new grill and some paint colors and tack on another $10k every year.

I dunno. I'm in a Grand Cherokee at the end of its lease, and the buyout is about 10K less than the market value. Used car market is fucked right now.

Nice, buy it out and cash out that equity!
Do you have another vehicle?
I'm in the midst of importing a Toyota Dyna from Japan, truck prices around here are insane. Between the whacked used car market and the boom in building, contracting, trades truck prices are just nonsensical.
its crazy how this picture spells out our modern day consumerism.
The add says buy this car and it will take you to the trail head.
I look at it and it says: I blew all my money on a 60,000$ luxury car and immitated the bike to try to convince people Im rich and faking it
So when I first read this, I was slightly offended - I have a 2015 SR5 Premium that I bought in 2016 with 10K miles for $34K - but then I remembered that I AM a soccer mom these days (though my husband has absolutely nothing to do with me having a 4Runner). Aside from an Army Ranger in my neighborhood and a guy I follow on IG with a built 5th gen, everyone I know who owns a 5th gen is also a soccer mom. In short, your statement is 99% accurate AF.
I used to be a hardcore Toyotahead who wrenched on '80s model pickups and a BJ, swore by the 22RE and 3.4 swaps. Now, I don't even change my own damn oil because you have to take half of the stupid thing apart, and I don't know how to (and am incapable of) fixing basically anything on my truck. It makes me sad, and I miss the old days of wrenching and wheeling. But I have little kids and a crazy career, and I enjoy the convenience of heated leather seats during Alaska winters. What I miss most is driving a manual.
Maybe one day I'll have another moneypit toy rig... probably for hunting use.
Oh, and on the note of this actual thread, I definitely missed something, because I haven't seen or heard anything about this controversy... probably because I'm a soccer mom with my head in the sand when it comes to Toyota off-road these days.
Biffbarf

Jesus Christ I relate to this pretty hard. We still have my wife’s 89 4Runner that is apparently worth like 20k or some shit now so we are gearing up to sell it. Trying to finagle a car seat into the back of that rig is like oh I see why everyone sells these 🤦♂️. Probably do a summer with the top off and cash in can’t drive a stick around in Seattle traffic it’s not that fun
