onenerdykidThis is what's called a boot board or a zeppa.
You can get a replacement through your local Atomic dealer (they might have to order it); they won't be easily found online as they aren't normally sold online.
apc.frIs there a reason so many boot manufacturers use this particular material? I've snapped more than a few in my Cochise this season, to the point where I carry 2 extra sets in my ski bag.
Seems pretty prone to breaking. Hard impacts? Shattered. Take it out of your boot the wrong way? Shattered. Put it back in your boot the wrong way? Shattered. Look at it the wrong way? Shattered.
Of all the materials to use, why one that's so brittle?

onenerdykidFor a few reasons: it's way lighter, it's measurably warmer (doesn't lose heat as quickly as plastic or "shock absorbing" versions), and it's grindable (needed for boot-fitting)
There are even lighter weight materials (what the Lange XT3 uses) but those break even easier.
Every material has its trade-offs or pros/cons. But the hunt for better or next gen materials is far from done.
