So I broke my collarbone in January and got surgery a few days after. I am currently on my 7th week of doing absolutely nothing since surgery and have full mobility of my arm back and feel great. Does anyone have any experience or advice on what to do here? I want to ski so bad, it's been way too long since I last skied and if I did go this weekend I'd probably take it pretty easy and only hit mellow jumps and maybe some small rails unless someone thinks otherwise. Thanks
I broke mine a few years ago, waited around 6 or 7 weeks and went surfing and ended up shattering it. I have plates and screws in now and they said it makes it stronger than it was before, but idk. I saw a guy ski with a broken collarbone still in a sling before and do a flair on a quarter pipe so it definitely can be done. I'd just take it easy, maybe just do some carving and switch skiing
I know a fair number of people who've broken their collar bone (cyclists and triathletes). The best course is to always follow doctors orders. Always. I seriously wouldn't hit any jumps at all if the doctor's advised you to avoid impacts. It doesn't take much to jar the bone enough to do damage if it's not ready.
Just skiing slow and easy would be a risk, but might be worth it. Hitting any kind of jumps would be crazy if the doctor told you not to.
I was feeling back to normal like 5 weeks after I got a plate and 9 screws put in. Doctor told me to not ski for another 4 weeks so naturally I gave it 2 weeks and went out. Although I took it easy for about a month and only did mellow rail cruising and groomers. A month later I was back to my same level of riding after that
