Against a backdrop of modern medicine finally relieving the fatigue of pandemic, an armed insurrection being squashed as a new administration takes power, the wave of old and evil crashing down through the court of public opinion, and an 18" dump on a Saturday quenching a snow drought in the Rockies... a sense of inevitable victory prevailed throughout the Ikon hoard.

We came in full force, riding an energy of optimism that was lost almost a year ago. Young and old, blue and red, rich and poor, core and kook - united together with a single objective: to get to the front of this massive tram line.

I saw him right there in front of me. He had pink Black Crows mounted with Pivots in one hand, a 16 oz can of PBR in the other.

He had cracked his beer at the end of the line and nursed it for an hour and a half till the front. No mask the whole time, cause he was drinking.

The inevidable standoff came at the pass scanning gates. The Matriarch of the Tram, a silver fox that's obviously been running the Snowbird Circus for decades, confronted him with the annoyed boredom of someone that has been parroting "A buff is not enough" for months.

With a shit-eating smirk, he took a tiny little sip, right in her face. "Yo it's fine, I'm drinking," he said with the confidence that only a young dumb mediocre white guy can carry.

Perhaps I saw a bit of myself in that tram manager; perhaps I can suck down a can of PBR in seconds and was wondering why he was still drinking that thing; perhaps I just like to stroke the back of chaos...

I yelled, "Put it on!" In a man's voice and turned away so no one knew where it came from. God forbid he tries to fight me and I get kicked out. Like 100 people all went silent and looked at the guy, so he put the mask on.

He immediately took it off when he got on the tram platform and got another warning from some faceless tram platform employee dude.

No matter, the tram was arriving. The 24 of us shuffled in quickly.

As soon as the door closed, he started to take his mask off, and the impatient operator firmly told him to put it back on. The guy turned his back to the operator and shouted a Randy Marsh impression of, "I thought this was America!"

He technically had the mask on, so we departed the lower station. For 30 tense seconds, he babbled to his friends while ignoring the operator who was trying to get his attention. Somewhere in there, to no avail, one of his friends yelled, "Would you just shut the fuck up?!" The only one to stand up to him.

Enough was enough. "THAT'S IT! YOURE OUTTA HERE!" Boomed the operator. He turned that bitch around.

Guy realized he was actually getting kicked off, and bashful asks his homies, "So you guys wanna go home?" A resounding "NO DUDE" from shut-the-fuck-up guy and the rest of his friends.

Utah people are kinda bashful, so they just kinda rolled their eyes in silence. Me however, thats when I just lost it. I was cackling like a hyena! "Ohhhhhhh!!! Worldstaaaaaaar!!!! Yeeeeeeep yeeeeep looooooser!!"

You see, Newschoolers, dreams really do come true. Nothing makes you feel more powerful than witnessing people in Walmart fighting over towels. This was almost better.

They threw him out, with his departing words being, "I'm not even that drunk."

It was a speedy ride to the top. I took a victory lap, surfing victorously over the crest of a New America. It was a sign that the light has arrived to illuminate the darkness. The winds of change have turned, and the mighty ox has arrived with a plow in tow. We have prevailed!

People like that piss me off. Im always chill with businesses and the rules. If nothing else just help them out for the optics. For instance, the last thing Snowbird needs is a KSL Article on how the lifties were lax on the mask rules and there was an outbreak and someone's grandma died or something.

That being said, I hate the Tram at Snowbird. Why anyone would rather cram themselves into a claustrophobic box with skis off instead of a peaceful chairlift ride is beyond me. The Tram can access like 3 runs you cant get from the lifts anyway. I always used to get the chair only pass but took the Tram once early season and hated every second of waiting in line and being stuck in there.

Fuck I’ll play ball to ski on wet grass but masks don’t work for a virus that is idk 1000 times smaller then the filtration capabilities of your mask. What we are doing as a country and even as the world down not make any sense


The virus is small but the aerosolized droplets the virus is transmitted in are larger and filtered.
The virus cannot survive and be transmitted without these droplets.

There is a reason everyone has mask mandates because it works, the virus isn't being spread at grocery stores and gyms, its been spread at home where people stop wearing masks because nobody is gonna wear a mask in their own home. Unfortunately, the only way this all ends if everyone gets vaccinated and we can all return to normal life.

This is basically becoming misinformation at this point. There are ZERO randomized controlled trials which show public mask mandates are effective. There are studies which show when you strap a mask to a tube it stops droplets, and there are observational studies which all suffer from the classic problems with observational studies, particularly snapshots in time and omitted variable bias. The virus isn't spread in grocery stores because walking by someone with COVID isn't considered a contact even without a mask.

Everyone I know who thinks masks are dumb wears them exactly the same amount as people who thinks mask are saving the world. These people were just against exactly what you said in your last sentence and exactly what we knew this would come to, no normal until a vaccine. Move them goalpost some more because even after you get the vaccine you must be scared by mandate!

Look man, like I said. Keep telling people what to do. It's a great look. I'm sure you won't ski at all, because traveling in April is bad, but traveling now when there or more cases is good.

It wasn’t even up to me but I was okay with it while they tried to figure this out. Now that they have procedures and guidelines in place, I happily and easily wear a face covering where I need to, keep 6ft from others, and stay in the parking lot when I’m not skiing because I’d like to stay open this year. It has nothing to do with me “telling others what to do” it’s about me understanding that I’m not the center of the universe and what may be a MINOR inconvenience to me may very well help the greater good of us staying on the hill. You should explore the view point dude.

I've expressed my viewpoint and I'm done discussing. If you think wearing masks outside or staying in the parking lot is doing anything, then more power to you. My view is you people will move the goalposts ad infinitum, so keep on keepin' on. I follow all the rules you do.

Scream and cry about some dumbass not wearing a mask in a tram and then go hangout indoor with friends, without masks, without distance. But yeah, I'm the terrible person who does exactly what you do, I just think differently than you. Nothing like tolerance from the very cool people telling everyone what is acceptable.

Yep, droplets which cannot be blocked by cloth masks and which hang around in the air for up to six hours. So that stuff fogging up your glasses/goggles would just hang around and infect people. Airborne generally means extremely small particles which are capable of being suspended in air.

Masks for COVID are meant to stop medium sized droplets. Large ones fall to the ground quickly. Small ones pass through and hang around.

Tbh I respect this guy fuck masks everyone knows they don't work and I do wear mine cause rules are rules. Operator needed a blowhorn like the liftee at Brighton. But we should ski together I got PC and Brighton always down to shred with other chicks. Also really well written
