Tricks that blew people's minds 30 years ago are being landed by 5 year olds in the park.
Same thing with anything. Skateboarding, surfing, etc. Even dancing. Michael Jackson blew people's minds but if you watch him dance today it just seems so mediocre compared to what people do now.
Look at Pythagoras, his ideas that made him so famous are being learned by 13 year olds around the world or at a much earlier age if they're interested in learning maths.
So, what's the point of being good at anything? What's the point in learning anything?
Even our Tanner Hall, a true legend, all his tricks will one day become standard. They certainly aren't good enough to be winning X-Games by a longshot anymore.

1. Nobody actually cares about the soulless comp robot windells kids who learned triples when they were 12.
2. If you can spin single flips all 4 directions on every axis (misty, rodeo, cork etc.) you are plenty good at skiing imo. A lot of kids throwing doubles just know how to throw spins hard one way, one axis.
3. There's a reason I get more excited when I see a nutty back 2 versus a shittly thrown double boot grab triple by a 13yr old.
4. I ski because skiing is fun.

I think that skiing is all about that edit. Making something that you can look back on when you get too old or have other priorities and you can say to yourself “I had a blast doing that”. The edit is the prize for all the work you put in, doesnt matter if ur the best or the worst as long as the edit captures how much fun you have.

thats why I always preach not putting clips on IG. If you put a couple raw ig clips thats chill but edits reflect you as a person and if you make a meaningful edit with good b-roll and good vibes it stays with u forever.

Skiing is a Spiritual activity as well as Sport. When you put on skis and are surrounded by pure white Mountain Terrain= Energy Clearing. It's really fkt up how much better of a Healing Skiing is than Yoga ahahahahah don't trigger plz

Its not about what you do, it’s about how you do it. Yeah the technical progression of skiers is always going to be constantly evolving with athletes outperforming each other every day. But think about the tricks that get remembered for years. Kieran mcveigh has a very unorthodox approach to skiing during his prime back in 2013 and is still beloved by many pros. The Vishnu guys built their own cult following from the ground up despite getting constantly ridiculed by boomers on this site for “not doing real tricks”.

To the OP- there is actually a certain type of skiing that is literally centered around being better than everyone else in any given day. It ensures you have absolutely no fun or enjoyment and its all about besting those around you. You will be miserable and hate yourself for every little flaw in each run. Each lift ride will be a hellish introspective nightmare on what you should have done better. It sounds right up your ally.

Its called ski racing.

5.Friend of a Pro that can throw some tricks
6.That 60 year old mogul dad
7.A skier who can keep up with a pro on some hot all mountain laps, but not toss tricks
8.A great tourist who skis fairly well
9.Kid of said tourist who is utterly without fear
10.The mediocre local who just wants to have a good time
11. Very old guy who just wants to have a good time as well
12.The backseat bomber
13.Gaper who is has just mastered pizza french fry
14.Grom who has mastered french fry, but not pizza
15.Jerry with all the expensive gear and has mastered neither pizza nor french fry and will be angry at you, and claim it was your fault when he falls over 15 feet away from you after you stomp something sick in front of him

Anyway, point im making with this is there will always be someone better than you out there, and there's no point evaluating your own progress against other's. Unless you are Candide. Then you can say you are the best to ever do it

its all for the fun of it. there are always gonna be little kids throwing bigger tricks than i could ever imagine doing but skiing brings me so much happiness. boosting it down the hill with all the boys is a feeling that can't be matched

Personally I feel like it doesn’t matter if you are good, I think it’s all based on style. I don’t watch other skiers for the tricks they can do, I watch them because they are good at incorporating their style into the tricks everyone else is doing.

the point of being good at skiing is to have fun. And even legends like tanner and Tom still have fun skiing so what if there are not the best anymore and that kids are better than them they paved the way for progression and style while having fun. I still think that huge nice style 360 can look better than big tricks.
