TheHamburglarMy rich cousin in San Diego posts all day about every conspiracy theory imaginable, the last few days have been about Wayfair and Ghislane and sex traffic rings, then he goes on about the fall of the Cabal and sounds like Ankilla... I wouldn't be so concerned if he weren't surrounded by so many other people who agree with him. He's from a loaded NE family but moved west and started a company selling healing crystals. Oh and he's anti mask and his fiancee is anti vax of course.

Sure it could be a front but my god unless it’s a genius plan hidden in plain sight nobody would make a website, advertise furniture for some mom to look at and maybe order (prices are fucked lol) something and actually get a missing child instead. armchair_skierI’m like 50/50 on if it’s real or not. The names of kids being in the listings is bizarre, and wayfair hasn’t given any statement on it that doesn’t sound like bs. But this could easily be faked or coincidence, I feel like something similar to this has probably happened before, but I wouldn’t remember it.

Monsieur_PatateNot sure what explanation you need about the names. Hundred of thousands of kid go missing every year, give me any name and I'm sure I can find a bunch of kids by that name who went missing.
The same conspiracy theory could therefore apply to any company selling product with names on them. The only unusual thing about those listings is the price. But again plenty of other overpriced things being sold over the internet.
chef_boyardeeI agree the names are pretty explainable, and I get that there are lots of overpriced things on the internet, but they had the same shower curtain listed at $99 and $9,999, and the expensive one had a name while the other one didn't. I would like an explanation for that. I'm sure there is one, cuz i really doubt wayfair is involved in human trafficking and that they're dumb enough to sell kids on a public site with their actual names listed.

HYPOTHETICALLY, if I were to guess what is going on here... These products ARE indeed named after real people, because the script used to obfuscate products (white-labeling them to prevent cross shopping on other websites) uses names from Wayfair's own employee base (about 25,000 people across the globe) to re-name the products. I recently saw a stat that there were about 460,000 missing child cases active in the US, which if you search long enough you can find a match with a product name/Wayfair employee pretty damn easily. I have a fairly unique last name and there are numerous products on the site using it.
As far as the expensive af pillows, there is also pricing logic to apply extreme upcharges to products that have poor merchandising, incorrect information, duplicates, or out of stocks on site so that these products are not bought by a customer.
Wayfair is low-key an awesome place to work (I know a few other people on NS who work there) and everyone inside is having a bit of a laugh at this conspiracy. Which is indeed, fucking hilarious (albeit a bit sad, given the topic and the fact that human trafficking is indeed rampant in the US)
