When the ski comes out of the mold/press, is the base flat or does it need a stone grind to flatten the surface of the ptex?

Used to intern at a local ski builder in a western ski state. Ski would come out in the correct shape. Base was only thrown on a buff grinder before shipping out. Of course, ski was cut out first, and all the other stuff done.

Ok makes sense. I was just wondering how they made ski bases so damn flat.

Our skis never had any epoxy on the base. Had to grind epoxy off the edges for sure, but the base would get grinded to flatten it out. They usually come out decently flat, but rarely perfect right off the press.

Yeah thinking about it again this is more accurate. Epoxy on edge but still grinding the base to flatten and expose fresh base material
