Mt. Hood Summer 2020

Timberline has given 0 information on both their spring pass this year as well as if there will be a summer season. Instead they have postponed events as far out as Labor Day.

I really don’t get how Timberline could miss out on an entire summer season. I feel like a ton of money they get comes from summer ski/snowboard camps as Timberline has the longest ski season in the US that I know of.

I’ve read articles that say Timberline has laid off as many as 430 employees. What the status is with whether or not those people will be reemployed I don’t know.

But if the States are starting to relax lockdowns (MN opening golf courses, boating, Florida opening beaches, NY and NJ opening up more essential activities, Idaho and Wyoming possibly opening nonessential businesses next week) why wouldn’t Timberline be open for skiing/snowboarding starting at the end of May/beginning of June?

Plus, i haven’t read them myself, but i have heard people say that studies have came out that the virus dies a lot faster in a sunny, warm environment.

I mean they could keep certain social distancing aspects as well. Possibly only allow 2 people on the chairs up Palmer (if Palmer isn’t fucking broken :/) and Magic Mile , makin sure they sit on opposite end stage of each other. You could have mandatory masks still, besides a lot of people are wearing something over their faces anyway to prevent major sunburn. And you could keep social distancing in the lodge itself, similar precautions grocery stores are taking back (plastic guards over ticket attendants, cashiers, tape on the ground marking out 6 ft of distance between people, etc,.).

I feel like it could totally be possible to have a summer season still. Timberline and it’s customers just need to follow precautions and be smart. That’s going to be how it is with every business and public place for quite a while I’m assuming.

Yeah but it closes at 2 so if you want to stay in the park til 3 youll have to hike

Yo what’s the best way to ski some park in august at hood, since their closing to rope tow this weekend, are they gonna move the park up to the glacier? Or is it gonna stay there as a hike park?

Just skied 3 days at Tline without a pass. Hiked up first day, no one checking the second day, and clipped a ticket from a racer yesterday.

Vibe is academy kids doing dubs, 10 year old campers, and smelly squids who live in the woods

yeah I talked to some Timberline staff about it today. The day they closed early someone went up and took a bunch of pictures of the lines at Palmer all stacked and crowded rope tow lines and sent them to the state. Timberline rolled out more covid protocols the next day

yesterday was the last day of ropetows. supposedly there will be a small public park set up on palmer but I'm not sure if they will leave the pipe set up.

not saying that didn't happen since the lifts def have been super crowded with people either cutting or scooting right up behind you when you attempt to create distance around yourself, plus all the masks resting on chins covering nothing, but thats not the reason why the parks closed abruptly on 7/17. Palmer still continued their normal operations until 2pm that day

Palmer is the only lift worth lapping currently, the hike out of Mile is already above the PCT line and is quickly approaching the water tank, really just a take your boots off at the end of the day exit type hike


The past ~month at the FTC has been incredible, very thankful for Timberline park crew for making it work despite the uncertainty. Timberline is proving to be the most resilient lift serviced option we have here in NA as times become increasingly uncertain with climate change/etc...

Lifts stay spinning through labor day usually, but at somepoint in august the route back to palmer from the bottom of the park melts out and you have to hike the park. Probably is still ok now though

ScootSkiLyfeCheck out Rowland lake. It’s a little bit further away, just past Hood River on the other side of the Columbia. Very warm waters and hardly any people. You can jump off a rock that goes out to the middle of the lake. It’s about 40 feet tall. Just search Rowland lake on Google Maps and take the left right before you get to the destination. It’s a small lake on the left of the railroad tracks by the river. It’s a really nice spot. About an hour drive from Govy


Me and I found this place the other day. Super legit jump, deep water. Thanks for the info
