AlmostCoolerYou’re thinking of his second (of two) real skis and not even his superunknown
teamdummyOh for fucks sake. Do what you want. But I sure didn’t feel the internet shake when the Bunch dropped their last edit. There’s a reason for that. It’s buffoonery. Fucking dancing and spinning around and flailing arms on every landing. They’re doing it wrong. Period. People are gonna be laughing at their videos in 10 years.
CatdickBojanglesAnkilla on NS > No Ankilla on NS. Welcome back we missed you.
.nastyOh look a voice of “reason” no one asked for. Get the sand outta there, boy.

little_1337Very well said, I agree. It's just like how people would shit on thug skiing for wearing baggy clothes because it looked "ridiculous" now everyones shittin on tight pants and kids who are stoked to be skiing! Maybe everyones just gettin old or I'm out of touch...
JayBI'm so old and out of touch that I had never even heard of new wave until I saw people referencing it and "The Bunch" in the comments below the Wallisch/Dumont video.
I'm glad they're having fun, but there's nothing in their videos that particularly impressive in the way that pretty much all "Newschool" skiing from 1998 onwards was. I don't think there's any defensible basis for claiming that this is simply a matter of old people hating on a new development in skiing simply because it's new. I can remember being in a room full of skiers well north of 40 when Mosely threw down his 360 mute grab on his gold medal run in 98, and all of them lost their minds. They'd never seen a trick that combined technical mastery and style like that, and I had countless experiences like that over and over again at TGR/Matchstick premiers, on chairlifts, etc. I remember taking a lift ride with an 80 year old, passing over the park, and seeing him react to someone throwing down a rodeo five by spontaneously blurting out "Sweet mother of God! What the hell was that?! That was incredible!" No hate - just awe and appreciation.
There's something different about what I saw in the one and only "new wave" segment I'll ever watch on purpose. The guys in "The Bunch" are clearly talented, but they frankly seem so disinterested in putting that talent to use, and so unexcited about what they're doing I'm not sure why they bothered to film it. The whole thing seemed like another manifestation of self-conscious irony, which has been a tedious cliche masquerading as an ethos for what, 20 years now? This time on twin-tips. Great. "Hey! Look at us. We're landing....sideways. Get it? People used to try *not* to do that - but now we're doing it...on purpose. Get it now? No? Okay! See the pants we're wearing? They're really skinny and *not* actually made for skiing...ect, etc, etc, etc, etc." Yawn.
I have three year old and eight year old girls who basically have no frame of reference other than going skiing, and when they saw the "Resurrection" edit (on mute) they were instantly blown away by the energy, the speed, the air, and the athleticism that they were watching even if they didn't have the vocabulary to describe their impressions with anything other than a "Whoa!" every time the edit cut to another incredible trick. The stoke radiating out of two world-class athletes reveling in their talent and savoring every stomped landing was absolutely contagious, even to a three year old.
When they saw "El-something or other" they were just confused. "Daddy - what are they trying to do? Are they skiing that way on purpose?" I was just as confused as they were, so I didn't have a good answer. The best I could come up with was "I think so, but I'm not sure why." "Me neither - let's watch that guy in the red and white pants again!"

Padagucci1920Reason number 2079 I still be rocking a xxl golden era saga kit and keep my pockets full of after bang !
MomAgainst4tniteSaga isn't cool
Padagucci1920It definitely isn't anymore that's why I rock the old kit with tall t. There are hardly any half decent outerwear companies in the game rn, new wave style blows and the og companies have lost what made them dope for the most part.
MomAgainst4tniteWhat's your definition of new wave because the only real new wave skiers i know of are the bunch.
**This post was edited on Apr 1st 2020 at 10:11:42pm
Padagucci1920Well basically swerve skiing, the majority of the vishnu team, and wearing overly fitted gear/tracksuits. There are talented new wave / swerve skiers but I just think that the vast majority of them doesn't look as good.
MomAgainst4tniteI mean Tukka Porri rides for vishnu and the rest of the Forre crew has similar style to him. If you can't enjoy the style of forre you got something wrong with you. I think swerve skiing has mellowed out this season and if you watch vishnus team video, the deep end, you'll see that theres a lot more hammers and a lot less swerve than years past.
Padagucci1920Vishnu definitely has gotten a lot better just still not really my thing. Its definitely impressive to watch I just would never try to go for that style in my skiing.
MomAgainst4tniteUnderstandable
Padagucci1920I like the majority of the guys that ride for J like Zahner and stepp. I know Carson Kerr (one of the guys from super unknown last year) and his style is sick as hell. So like that's more of the style I'm into, little bitta swerve lota big simple bangers.
MomAgainst4tniteI just see that as normal skiing, which is sick. No thug or insane swerving, dudes just being technical and stylish.

nolan_yagerOlder people hating on a new development is exactly what happened with Moseley in 2002 and it's exactly what's happening now with The Bunch.
https://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/11/sports/olympics-freestyle-skiing-moseley-returns-amid-controversy.html
Moseley did the dinner roll in the 2002 Olympics because it was what he wanted to do and because he thought it was cool, even though the judges penalized him for it. The guys in the bunch are doing the same thing now - they don't care if you think what they're doing is cool. It's what they want to do. The only difference is that this time around, instead of being open to new stuff, you've taken the place of the out of touch judges.

clindblomskierDamn y’all really getting heated over peoples style they choose to ski with. No one is forcing you to shuffle your landings or wear track pants chill out
pinkcamo1000from the way people describe it I'm pretty sure magnus is going into peoples homes and forcing them to watch Elnour at gunpoint
also keep the new wave hate coming boys, every time I hear it I just think about Mango winning real ski and laugh. Saying new wave is dead is just announcing that you're out of touch with the scene.
