Replying to Help picking some maneuverable powder skis for moderate speed off piste that can still hold up for some charging
I am in desperate need for recommendations on a different pair of wider, powder oriented skis for in bounds, mostly off piste use. I have failed on two previous attempts at guessing on this kind of ski to round out a two ski quiver (Kastle FX95 HP is my main ski) for Western conditions (Taos, Park City, Jackson Hole, Crested Butte, Aspen, etc.), so I am finally reaching out for some guidance in hope to make the third time a charm.
My ideal solution would be something that is a powder oriented, all mountain ski, that is easily maneuverable at moderate speeds in steep and/or tight terrain (including being good in steep mogul fields with big, tight moguls with deep troughs) instead of being super directional and needing to be driven hard all of the time, is somewhat forgiving and not overly demanding, but still has good stability with the ability to charge when called upon, at least when carving up big GS turns on groomers at the end of the day. This could perhaps be a holy grail pipe dream with some counteracting conflicts, but that is effectively what I need. Also, I’ll make the sacrifice on giving up a little chargeability if the trade off was for a bigger improvement in maneuverability at moderate speeds, if that was what I needed to do given my priorities for this particular ski.
I am a 5’ 10” male, weigh 185 lbs, in my mid 30s, and I am a pretty strong skier. However, I bet that I probably can’t keep up with most of the real bad asses here if I am being honest, and I lost some (but not all) of my aggression after racking up some injuries over the years including tearing half of the ligaments in both of my knees and herniating two discs in my back so I am a little more risk adverse these days).
So far, the two main options that have jumped out to me are the;
1) Armada ARV 116 JJ (primary recommendation from Lukas R at backcountry)
2) Moment Wildcat / Blister Pro
Also, I am thinking the 184/185 lengths given my size.
Some other possible options that have come up but am not so sure about are the;
3) Rocky Mountain Underground YLE 110 (secondary recommendation from Lukas R at backcountry)
4) Line Sick Day 114
5) Rossignol Super 7 RD
6) Nordica Enforcer Free 115
Based on the above or also the additional details below, what listed or unlisted options seem like the best fit?
