Skiing with edges underfoot sucks

I’ve been skiing without edge underfoot for the last half of last season and all of this season so far. Just got new skis and gave them a little detune as well, these mofos stick on everything. I forgot how normal skis are supposed to slide rails though.

In the time of me not having edge underfoot, never have I once stuck to a rail, better yet, never slid it as if it was not just oiled up with some kind of lubricant.

y’all complain about losing edge underfoot, but damn, makes the ski so much better in the park.

it was made by rossignol and it was called the powair grind. this was about 15 years ago...

you would love the on3p mags. They come factory detuned underfoot so they feel great on rails straight out of the box.

It’s not like you’re doing GS carves off of park jumps. You just need a little bit of edge engagement

Straight base on rails with no edge can be slow/sticky as fuck sometimes. Imo edges stick less.

Not like the mags, they go to town on those babies and the edge underfoot is smoother than anything I’ve managed to achiever with a file myself

OP cant ski. Effective use of edges is important and having a slight detune underfoot while still having bite when needed is important. Check out dominator's 5hr tune of a brand new pair of park skis and you'll see what i mean.

Never heard they did that one. But also ON3P gives the option of a detune for their skis. Other than that I know nothing of any other brands shipping their skis with a detune.

Literally I don’t even have a solid sidewall left on my skis, it’s warped way up and out almost half an inch and I have no base left there either, it’s just wood core showing and I can still carve off jumps just fine

along with making some basic turns on anything that’s not a solid sheet of ice. in slush I can’t notice the difference in turning between a normal park ski with edges and my old beater skis with a fucked up underfoot.

I can ski fine with or without edges, but I just like never having a rail stick to my skis, ever.

I just enjoy sliding rails more than laying some hard turns down blues and blacks all day

I bought these skis used for 50 bucks and they’ve gotten me this far thru the season so far, and they still work.

i will use them until they physically can’t hold binding screws anymore.

I did epoxy the wood it’s just hard to see in the pics. It just wears off though within a couple runs since it’s in direct contact with the snow/rail.

This is rough ! But common let’s be honest if you don’t notice a difference between this messed up ski and a new ski with fine edges , well then set me up with the meds you’re having access too 😄😄

Good for you for using your skis until they are completely dead. Too many people give up on their skis after the slightest things imo. Those look like every park ski I have ever owned after about a season and a half and can usually get another 1.5 seasons out of them. Try g flex epoxy I have found that it holds up remarkably even with direct rail contact although at this point epoxy probably won't do much for you.

That’s the stuff I use. Works really well actually. That little gap between the wood and the sidewall you see is actually filled with g flex.

I have other skis that I’ve used that on where there is missing edge and it made such a perfect seal between base and sidewall and skied it hard for months, the shit would literally wear down before it would physically break apart and fall out of the gap. Strong stuff.

I’ve lost just about all my underfoot edge with the mags after 1 1/2 seasons, they come detuned then lose their edges real quick.

Update everyone I had to take the bindings off these bad boys because the wood core was literally breaking down behind my binding and I wasn’t tryna get hurt on a fall when the ski finally gave out or the binding ripped out

The Moment Frankenski was edgeless underfoot for a while. If you can somehow find your hands on a '13-14 pair, you could try something a little more modern than the pow air grinds
