Dumbest thing you have ever witnessed at a ski resort
This isn’t at a resort but I think it could fall into this category.
I made the the mistake of attempting to ski on the Saturday of MLK Weekend this past January. As I’m driving up highway 6 to a basin I realize that the entire population of Colorado also had the same idea as me. I was still four miles down the hill from abay and traffic was already backed up. I felt bad for the parking lot attendants since there wasn’t a whole lot of communication it seemed. The parking they had was full, but only those manning that lot knew that. This was before A basin left the epic pass so once I drove by the resort and saw the situation I just said screw it, drove to the top of Loveland pass, turned around and headed back down to keystone.
Here is where the idiocracy comes into play. Some folks were so set on skiing at A Basin that even when the parking lot was full, they parked their cars along the high way, which has several avalanche chutes, little to no space and it’s illegal. Some cars were parked a mile or more up or down the road. So to review, they were going to ski the shoulder along the highway to the resort then after a day of skiing, bootpack back to their cars.
Then I saw the highlight of this whole fiasco, some people were clicking into their skis, which did have the distinctive Christi sports sticker towards the tip on them. Then, they dropped into one of the gullies off of highway 6 above a basin. These were steep, technical, exposed lines.
And here were some rentals dropping in. Overall a very interesting thing to watch.

Was on the chairlift at Targhee back in the early 90's and it ran out of diesel(old lift that still ran on diesel instead of electricity back then) about 10 am. Was stuck on the lift for almost 3 hours until they got fuel up to it and got it primed. Guess someone overlooked the level of fuel during the morning checks. Stranded almost 200 people for hours.
This one time we were watching this Asian guy who had a full racer get up. We watched him straight line a set of icy moguls and have one of the biggest crashes I have ever seen. He somehow managed to get up and limp down the hill and I never saw him again

Shit like this is scary man, you can die just by being outside in the winter, drunk or not. Makes me think of the people who have died like just outside of the summit building on mt Washington
Dad and his 5 year old kid were going towards broom closet at snowbird and asked me what was down there. I told them it was either a really skinny chute or a 20 or 30 ft cliff on either side. I recommended he go around with his daughter. People from the east seem to think chute means a few ski lengths wide for some reason, and he gave me a kind of derisive psshhht me and my daughter can handle that look. After sending the chute I went back at it for another lap. The dad was dragging his daughter up from the cliff area next to the chute and yelled at me: why didnt you tell me there was no way out??? I just told him there's the chute right there, but the way out is up that way where I pointed you before. Then I skied right down the chute and never looked back. I feel like I fucked with his pride when I went for it, but don't blame me for your poor decision.

This is how it was on the 4th of July. People were parking at the top of the pass and hiking down those chutes.

I'm curious...what did this guy's race have anything to do with the story?
I seen this dude with his girlfriend in the park, just watching people shred & I could tell he hasn’t skied much, possible rental skis I couldn’t really tell so no twin tip anyways his girlfriend was getting excited by watching these people throw sick lines & he obviously got jealous, I see this dude go for a box, with a small lip full speed skis right into the front of the box & he face plants... almost positive he got a concussion cause no helmet, I was in disbelief I just seen that
i saw a guy take off his snowboard, and throw it down the rest of the hill towards the lift line
he then walked down 300+m and explained to a mom why her kid was smacked with a board
Watched a dude hit the little baby spine feature at A basin wayyyyyy too fast, didn't pop at all and landed super flat from like 15ft up. Hit the ground like a wet rag, but he got back up somehow. Idk wtf he was thinking. And that was only a couple weeks ago
Revelstoke, maybe 15cm overnight. I’m skiing from the gondy to the main lift but decide to cut into the trees just to my right on the way there. Unfortunately some retarded snowboarder was snaking me just behind my right shoulder, I cut into the trees and he eats shit. I can hear him cursing me so I just flip him off. Fast forward to the lift line he spots me and says “watch where you’re fucking going” I tell him he should’ve given way to me. But he’s insistent on throwing down, his friends calm him down though.
That is one of my reasons why I want to get into big mountain touring. People rushing round on a pow day like crack fiends is pathetic. Just relax and enjoy the ment.

especially the talented, kind members of the skiing community that start screaming and hollering with rage the moment the lift stops for 5 seconds

I was heading down the groomer trail from ptarmigan at lake louise to hit a park lap with my team, and when i turned right, some gaper started straight lining the variable and crusty snow on the edge of the groomer, he passed about 10 cm in front of me at a fucking linsey vonn speed and ran straight into a wooden fence. I bailed out of complete fear and he broke right rough the fence and likely wouldve hit a tree and died if his skis didnt catch on it. I decided to stay and watch ski patrol bring him down on a sled while he just remained silent
I feel like i should mention that the fence was wooden and still hasnt been repaired

Guy #1: hits ice and hip checks
Guy #2: turns sharply to avoid guy #1 and crashes into guy #3
Guy #3: hits guy #2 and does a full fronflip, double ejects.
Guy#4: avoids guy number 2 and crashes, slides into guy #3 who is now stopped.
Guy #5: stops at top of ice section abruptly.
Guy #6: avoids guy #5, falls and slides into guy #3.
I got to see it from the chairlift. This was at mt hutt new zealand, might as well be the worlds largest downhill ice skating ring. No one really turns in new zealand.
theabortionatorJust watched one in our main park the other day from the lift. Always impressive, especially if people don't have anything reassembling twins.
If you don't have twin tips you've gotta click in backwards to ski switch right? Theyre out here living in the future

For reference:
First time ever at Snowbird I dropped into fields of glory with my buddy on one of the deepest pow days ive ever had.
No idea what laid ahead - the snow was untouched and i blacked out haha.
Took skiers right into the secondary snowfield only to find myself headed straight towards the cliffs..
I had no idea how tall they were so i cut hard left over a wind lip right into the chute - pinned it and came out in a blaze of glory...
One of the scariest runs of my life because I had no idea what i was getting into haha.
Great memories. Now im there twice a year and act like its the back of my hand.

Last run of the day, and my dad and I were at the top of the lift getting ready to drop in when a chinese couple skis up to us and explains, in very broken english, that this is the first time they have been on skis and they wanted to know what the easiest way down is. Keep in mind that basically every run off this lift is cliffed out. My dad and I spent the next half hour or so helping them get down, until we ran into a patrol that could take over. not really sure what they were trying to accomplish.

One time me and my homies were skiing with this younger guy we didn’t know so well. Kid had been drinking pretty heavy. We got on the chairlift one ahead of him and he was on the one behind us. I turn around and this kid is straight up pissing off of the chairlift. One hand on his dick one hand on the bar on the lift dangling himself halfway off of the chair.
Saw your typical country boy in his wranglers and carhartt straightlining a mogul run right under the lift and get maybe 6 feet of air straight into the next mogul and took maybe the biggest slam I’ve ever seen

tyler.minyay.9Fucking idiots ducking tones of roped off areas on a deep, powdery opening day at kicking horse, potentially putting everyone at risk in some areas.
Some ski areas ducking ropes on pow days is ok but a KH man that’s just fucking dumb
BiffbarfMust be pretty tight to live in utah where the parking lots don't fill up till 9:30am
It’s aight as long as you have snow tires and awd, but you’re not getting a spot anywhere near that late on a pow day unless you get to the bottom of the canyon by 7
