Skateboarding in da Olympics

Who's hyped?
Gonna be suuuuper fun to watch. I've never watched SLS Street League before bc I'm not a skateboarder but I'll watch the Olympics event.
I personally hope this opens up the door to BMX and maybe even aggressive inline and stunt scootering. (I know people hate on stunt scootering, and I myself don't think it's that stylish, but hey it's cool to see any skatepark sport in the Olympics.)

Scootering is terrible. It can be cool as much as if my friend did a backflip on a pogo stick randomly I'd be like "Woah that was sweet". Otherwise bullshit sport for people who lack balance.

People say "But look somebody did a cool whirly twirly on a scooter it's cool". Nah fuck that. Pro scooterers are like the dudes at the state fsir that have mastered some bullshit they're selling in a way that you'll never replicate if you buy said product. Making some helicopter boomerang orsomething look cool and legitimate enough to sell.

Inline got a lot of hate but at least people would send it on those things. Scooter trend and parents who bring 2 year old kids that can barely walk to skatepark on scooters should die.

Even better if small park with people legitimately trying to skate it. And then doucher scooter mom drops inbred scooter kid off in the middle and tries to bitch at other people not to have fun because scooter kid is in the way.

Oh yeah and skateboarding should be fun to watch.

Idk man a lot of people think that skiing is the winter sports equivalent of scootering. Very unfair comparison but I’ve heard it many times. Makes me wish I grew up snowboarding every time. I’ve met a few scooter guys who could actually rip and were pretty cool and they all felt pretty similar. Sometimes you just get sucked into a specific sport I guess.

I fucking despise little snake ass scooter kids though and whenever I see them at my local I try to convert them. I’ve donated a few old boards to scooter kids.

And I’m really not looking forward to skating in the olympics that much. I’m not some skateboarding purist, I honestly just think that any sport that can’t be measured objectively shouldn’t be in the Olympics. Plus comp skating feels like watching comp skiing to me. It’s cool to watch a few guys (Yuto is fucking sick) but most comp skaters just look the same after a while.

There aren't any rules to skatepark sports. I don't think scootering is that enjoyable to watch but I hate this dick measuring contest about what is harder or whatever. Let people do what they enjoy.

I shouldn't have brought up scootering lmao, I wanted this thread to be about skateboarding, I just mentioned scootering bc skateboarding in the Olympics could open the door to other popular skatepark sports, one of which is scootering.

Lmao yeah maybe normie suburban tourist kids who grew up in the 2000s when snowboarding was the "cool" thing to do and skiing was the "lame" thing to do because the general public didn't know that twintips existed. Nowadays it seems to me like everyone takes freestyle skiing pretty seriously, but idrk I guess, maybe people still think of groomer boomers when they think of skiing.

If people said that about skiing they were probably a snowboarder and just fucking with you.

People can legitimately rip on them but it's literally a watered down version of bmx and skateboarding. It's kind of sad when people get good at it because that motivates them to stick with it.

It's not a dick measuring contest. Even the best scoot scooterers aren't really throwing down that hard generally. Like you would be pro doing similar tricks to bmx on a scooter even though it's way easier.

The big rise in scooter has a lot to do with them being easy to roll around on, and parents wanting to get their stupid kids out of their lives for a few. If the kid isn't cooordinated enough to do anything, hand them a scooter to roll around the park on.

Scooting isn't a sport. Unfortunately our society is too bleached in someways. You can't tell anyone to fuck off and parents let their kids do anything. There were always kids at skateparks, but at one point they had to watch out for the better kids. Now any 3 year old that gets dumped off by their mom on her was to the liquor store pretty much runs the park. Pretty sad shift.

Skateboarding is undoubtedly harder than scootering, they shouldn’t be in the same conversation.




I think it’s cool and im excited to watch the qualifiers and see who gets selected for the games. Gonna be a wicked couple of months.

Ugh. Skating is basically going thru the same internal battle that skiing was when they decided add slope to to the olympics. Sure, it'll probably be great for the industry, get more kids interested etc. but contests and ESPECIALLY one as structured as the Olympics really just goes against everything skateboarding stands for (IMO).

I'll still watch just because the caliber of the talent is so fucking crazy but I'll likely throw on a GX1000 vid or Baker 4 after to cleanse myself...

Oh and I kinda consider scooters to be the same as ski-blades. Yes, they are fun to ride and you can do some sick shit....but at the end of the day the thing you're riding on was made for children and is inherently wack....

I wasn't on NS when freestyle skiing was added to the Olympics, but I'm surprised there was much controversy considering that corporate competition skiing had been a thing for over a decade.
