Official SPLAT thread

SPLAT is a gap jumping contest, winner will get skibladezzz, and there will almost assuredly be some other prizes along the way!

Rules:

1. You have to jump and ride out of a gap as defined below:
If your gap does not have an obstacle you are clearing, it must have: A defined takeoff zone, a low point between the takeoff and landing, and a Lip (not a knuckle) on the landing. A disaster will be considered a gap if you are gapping at least two kinks on a rail and landing will be the spot in which you land on the rail, not the end of the rail. A park jump does not count, nor does a straight cliff.
2. One point for will be awarded for every 5 feet gapped
3. Gap size will be determined by the poster first, judge (myself) and members second if necessary (as in you're overestimating or underestimating).
4. Points may only be earned on the same gap once per season per competitor, but you may submit as many different gaps as you would like for this competition. Your total score is a cumulative total of your submissions on the year.
5. Gap is measured from takeoff to landing
6. All footage must be from this season
7. Multipliers: 1.25x multiplier for a gap over a harmful, but not deadly (to you) obstacle (a rope, or cattrack or jerry)
1.5x multiplier for a gap over a harmful and potentially deadly obstacle (road or stream or crevasse)

Competition Start Date: Dec 1st
Competition End Date: May 1st

Submissions are through the thread only, Leaderboard is based on your username

BigPurpleSkiSuitSo guys, I'd say there's a solid shot I could put together a monthly prize of some hoodies and maybe a set of goggles and some other stuff too. What kind of monthly subcategory would you guys want to see? Biggest gap? Most creative? Best trick over a gap? Would love to hear some ideas from you!

What about worst gap fail? Somethin like THall wouldve won when he broke his ankles

You know what I mean though? The alerts that usually show up right underneath the black header of the website. They'll say "ON3P 4 is now live" or whatever. Not sure what it takes to get one of those announcements up.

Also would be cool to get a handful of skiers in the 1000+ club to post their entries on instagram. That might get the ball rolling.

And then once a handful of entries have been submitted a post could go up on the NS instagram or at the very least, the splat account to get people hyped and sendy

This year coverage is still pretty sketch in a lot of places, people are prolly waiting for more snow.

Instagram is a black hole. I went on to find your page and spent 30 min browsing ski videos and watched about 30 on gone patrol's page.

It would be helpful if jskis or NS could give you a shout out on their pages. Not sure if they can or not tho

I think that most people on this site are stuck at heavily groomed "mountains" with little natural terrain
everyone with good gap opportunities are busy skiing, while we share our irrelevant comments on an online site

I'm still looking around for a good gap, also for people to ski with that won't complain when I want them to film something real quick. I will certainly be submitting, though.

The fisherman in me wants to say it's much bigger than the camera angle suggests but I'll let you guys decide; I'm not about to crawl around Solitude with a tape measure. My guess is 25 ft high and 50 ft long

This is a pretty popular hit at Solitude so some of you Utah guys might have a better idea of the dimensions here

Although the posts are low... This is 100% a cliff not a gap, and yeah theres a tree. But what does that change, its like doing a park jump with a dude standing underneath the lip.

Other the that though the clip was sick, the send was dope. But I don't think its a gap.

Pretty sure op agreed at one point to allow cliff hucks if going over other obstacles such as trees. Maybe I'm wrong but thought so

Also I know this isn't the original intention but couldn't we open it up to cliff drops? That would garner way more entries that would likely be hella sick

We did discuss this before, if the tree wasn't there, it wouldn't be a gap, but there are also many cliffs with bushes over them so there's that too. I'm putting it in, and you're on top of the leaderboard as of today.
