Groomer skis for the wife

My wife wants new skis for this year. She currently has Rossignol Soul 7 HDs and did great on them. They are 106 underfoot and she did fine the the trees and powder last year. She wants some groomer skis for this year so she can ski more with her dad. Her dad did over 1 million vert last year at 70 years old! He is all groomers, all the time.

She wants something more stable at higher speeds but something that she can still go into the trees a little bit with and not totally suck in some pow.

Shes 5"6 and 110 pounds.

I'm not too worried about the budget, but if someone had a set thats a year or 2 old with bindings I'd be interested. Will more that likely buy new though as these will be her main Christmas gift this year.

For a similar feel coming from the Soul 7 but with a bit better edge hold, the Line Pandora series is worth a look. Light but still pretty stable, and they engage carved turns better than the Soul 7.

For a more groomer-oriented option, the whole Blizzard Black Pearl series is awesome, from what others have told me. Coalition Snow's Rebel is also worth a look, and so is the Liberty Genesis 90.

+1 on the pandora, my mom use to ride on them and theyre great she says. This is before she decided to buy into the dps hype. never let your wife buy into the dps hype

As mentioned above Black Pearl 88, Genesis 90...Icelantic Oracle 88 could be another good choice but I think you should get the Black Crows Vertis:

My girlfriend got a pair of QSTs 80 something underfoot (can't remember exactly) and they are the perfect groomer ripper for her. Really cheap surprisingly too.

Been looking at the Black Pearl as well as the Pandora. Also found a pair of 153cm length Nordica Santa Ana skis with 100cm waist and Marker Free bindings locally for a good price. Just not sure if those will be long enough for her.

Definitely agree with the Black Pearl 88, I work at a ski shop and see tons of those selling. Really stable, yet playful. My mom really loves the ripstick 94 as well.

She decided to get the Nordica Santa Ana 93s. in a 161. Shes pretty excited.

She has a pair of Rossignol Alltrack Pro 80 ski boots and wants to do a little touring at some point. I was thinking about getting the Marker Baron or F10 binding.

Thoughts?

she weighs 110 pounds and is a fairly aggressive skier. Not hitting any big jumps or drops, just lots of tree sking and chop.

Just get some Attacks and then if she actually wants to tour a little in the future she can buy some Daymakers and tour with either the Soul 7s or the Santa Ana's . Since she picked this out as her groomer cruiser ski to ski with her dad I would keep it dialed for that and not waste money on a touring binding that is not going to be quite a durable for banging around the resort.
The Attack 12s are the same as the 13s, 11s seem a little lighter construction but I know people that have used them quite a bit with good luck for all mountain skiing.

Attack 11s for a 110lb skier would be perfect unless that skier is sending big drops or hitting a lot of rails. The weight savings is noticeable as is the ease of clicking in and out.

Or even the marker squire. Because the Attacks moved to that dumb looking wide ass toe for gripwalk, id recommend the squire for its compact design.

Thanks everyone, going to look at some bindings tonight. She currently uses some Look bindings and they did fine for her last year. I believe that the DIN was set at 6

Leaning towards the Tyrolia Attack 11

Do not buy Attack 11 bindings! They are cheaper in construction than the 12 upward and the big issue is their heel height which is much higher than the toe height. Creates a ramp delta especially with shorter sole boots that can lean you too far forward and cause stability issues.
Attack 12 or 13 are much better built, flatter, not much heavier and you can get last year’s stock of Attack2 13s(same as this years) for great deals online. More color options than than the 11 too.

The 11 is a beginner/ski package binding that should be ignored by most.

The Attack2 is actually better built than the old Attacks without much weight gain. Better toe retention, smoother release in the 2nd version along with GW capability. I’ve had 6 pairs of the original and at least 10 pairs of the Attack2 13 and they are fantastic bindings.

I respectfully disagree. While I agree with most of your statement and there are a lot of people who should avoid the 11s this usage is what the 11s we're made for and where they excel. We're talking about a 110lb female skier looking to rip groomers on the Santa Ana 93. We're not talking about park or cliff drops or booters. The attack 11s are much easier to click in and out of and significantly lighter than the 12s and 13s. Do they even make the 12s anymore?

A 110lb female will have small boots which will magnify the effect of the Attack 11 ramp delta/angle. The 11 is made strictly for beginners who need to be forced to put their weight more forward but this causes those with proper posture to feel like they are in the backseat and cause balance issues.

Nothing to do with where on the mountain where the binding is used, the ramp angle causes issues everywhere.
The 11 is sold on beginner skis in packages and the 12 is usually a “package” binding too and not normally separately but the 12 doesn’t have the ramp issues.

The Attack2 13 is the binding most often sold separately with more color options and it sells for just a bit more than the 11 or 12 so it’s a no brainer to go for the 13.

Btw-Corbetts always seems to have last year’s binding stock of Attacks left into mid season as they sell so much quantity. The 2019 Attack2 13 95 is currently selling for $175 CAN/$130 US with free shipping in North America.

My girlfriend LOVES her Nordica Atral 84's. She's 5'2" 120 and she actually even sized down to the 151. She's a little speed demon on them. It's a little bit of a heavier ski, but that's the key IMO for a groomer ski and she loves the damp and powerful feel she gets, yet they are pretty easy going.
