What size skis for 5 foot 8 155lbs?

So my buddy is very new to skiing and this upcoming season will be his first full season. He figures he will buy a set of skis to get into skiing the local terrain park and asked for my help.

He is 5’8” (173cm) and 155 lbs, and he is very new to skiing. He wants a set of centre mounted twin tips. I thought for a beginner skier he could drop the ski length 10cm from his height (163cm). So would 165cm skis do the trick?

Any recommendations, also on bindings. Thanks guys.

I'd probably mount whatever ski a few cm back from center, depending on the ski perhaps mounting halfway between center and recommended or two or three cm forward of recommended.

Are there skis in consideration?

I was thinking the 2019 Line Tom Wallisch Pros or the Solomon NFXs. Both in 165cm.

Both full camber old school style park skis right?

Where do you ski? Also what is the next size up?

Both traditional park skis. I ski in a very small mountain in Ontario. Next size is around 170cm. My buddy wants something he can also grow into, he most likely wont physically grow but he wants something that he can grow into in ability. If that makes any sense lol

170 seems more reasonable. I'll let others chime in though, I have no experience riding small hills or traditional park skis. I did however have a pair of 163cm ARV 96 and found them too short at 5'7" 140 (171cm, 64kg) skiing Tahoe.

At 5ft 8 173 cm ski would be an advanced length and give him plenty of room to grow
getting a rocker chamber rocker ski will make any length easier to maneuver , also makes a stiffer ski more accessible

the Tom Wallisch is a great choice for growing into as would be blends

I would say Armada arv 86 or 84 they are good park/all mountain skis 84 is full camber 86 has more rocker in the tips/tails. They are made for beginners (especially arv 84) so they have a softer more forgiving flex pattern unlike the skis OP mentioned but it's good for a beginner. They should also hold up well plus they aren't super expensive. I would get 170 cm

I ended up getting 170cm Atomic Punx 5s for my friend. I think they are a good choice, not super stiff, directional, and should last him a while. I paired it with the red Atomic Warden 13 bindings. They match so well.
