Planning a weekend trip with my 11 year old son for late march. Trying to decide between Snowbird/Alta and the Canyons. We're both pretty good recreational skiers, but he's 11 and I turn 50 this year, so we both have our limits WRT the really crazy stuff. Looking for a mixture of steeps, reasonable bumps, high speed cruisers. Planning to stay at the base of either for convenience (Sundial at Canyons, or Cliff's or The Lodge at Snowbird).
We do a week long trip each year with the whole family (earlier this year was Beaver Creek) and the rest of my family skis exclusively greens / blues, so this is my chance to ski Snowbird since my wife and other son would never want to go to Snowbird for our weeklong trip. So that has me leaning heavily towards snowbird. But I've also heard how challenging snowbird/alta are and don't want to bite off more than my son and I can chew (I last skied snowbird 30 years ago, and I remember loving it, but I had 20 year old legs and a 20 years old's fearlessness at the time). I've also heard that lift lines on weekends can be a problem at Snowbird. We're skiing just Saturday and Sunday, so I don't want to spend half our time waiting in line to get up the mountain.
I've never skied the canyons, but I've heard good things. Regarding lift lines, I figure it's a big enough mountain that once you get up the mountain, you can always find areas to avoid the crowds. On the downside, it's probably more like a bigger version of beaver creek while snowbird/alta would give us a very different experience. Also, I think the snow has been better at Snowbird (although all the resorts seem to be in good shape for snow)
Thoughts? Other places we should consider?
Thanks in advance
