Hike the park or just use pass...

The mountain has done a great job of opening earlier than usual but they only have one terrain park. Even calling it a terrain park is a stretch. There's a parking lot about 750 ft above base right next to this "mini park" and I realized you could theoretically just hike the 3 features and never even need a lift.

I have a punch card with like 10 day passes and am wondering if it's worth using a day if I'm just going to spend it in park or if I should just hike it...?

My main concern is this is a smaller mountain and business isn't anywhere close to a major corporation like Vail Resorts so they truly grind every year to turn a profit. It isn't a tiny hill by any means but with relatively poor seasons recently and major investments in snow making equip, I don't want to be part of the reason they go out of business in the near future.

Just buy a pass. I understood that the money would really come in handy for them if you bought it, so don't be a dick I guess

That’s my main concern. But they already have almost $300 of my money so I’m wondering if it’s worth one of my limited uses (10 punches i believe) this season when only a fraction of the mountain is open and the park isn’t even lift accessed :/

hike it, even with a pass i hike shit when it gets to crazy or even if the rest of the hill sucks, dont trip, plus saving moneys nice

Me and a friend were hiking the park at Eldora and they called the cops, threatened us with theft of services and made us each buy 2 day tickets then leave.

idk but it does happen-- mtns sometimes take this kind of stuff SUPER seriously. when i was 13 i got caught using someone else's pass and they were livid and wanted to throw the book at us. IIRC i ended up buying a lift ticket (and not using it) to pacify them. can't tell you if they were really going to bring police into the matter but it def happens and i wasn't looking to take the gamble

OP i hear ya on this question, it's a tough call sometimes. but i try to always err to the side of being a good guy... can't really complain about ski hills going down the drain if you're skipping out on paying them yourself when you can, ya know?

I wouldn't buy a lift ticket to hike 3 rails. I can't tell you how many times I've hiked to avoid paying for one, and I sleep just fine at night. Granted, I ski mostly at resorts owned by mega-conglommerates like Peak Resorts though

I've been hiking the mini park at Snowbasin for the opening week. Definitely no need to buy tickets if they don't have anything open

I felt pretty dumb “wasting” a day when the lifts aren’t really accessing anything and the younger kids are just blatantly hiking with no remorse/penalty.

Its like a mini-mega corporation. They own five or so properties but only one or two are more than just hills with somewhat decent snowfall.

To make things even more confusing, I have to stand in a lift ticket line to validate my pass for the day. This is the first year they’ve had this system and half the employees are completely unaware of it.

So I missed out on almost an hour of shredding when I didn’t even need the lifts for the most part anyway. I’m just not trying to be that dick that gets kicked, or even worse...
