Replying to Bigger guy looking for skis to grow into for mostly US Midwest/East
Hi all,
Newer skier here. Just got fitted for boots so I'm all set there. Looking to get my first pair of skis for frontside/groomers so I can skip the rental lines and get right to the slopes with my season pass (time is money, and so are rentals).
I'm 45 yrs old, 6'3" and athletic 235 lbs. Where I will do 90% of my skiing will be on a man-made snow/ice/slush hill with mostly blues. Which is fine for learning. I do plan on going out west a few times a year (Colorado/Wyoming) for vacations and would like to ski out there too if my skill level is up to the challenge. A few people have recommend some entry level skies in the 75cm width range that are on the soft side and in the 175cm length (right at my nose in height).
My big question is, being I'm 235 lbs would I be wasting $$ on soft skies (Rossignol, Atomic, Dynastar, etc) or should I move up to a little stiffer ski? I don't want to make my learning curve harder, but also don't want skis that I grow out of in a season or less.
What would you recommend for a guy my size and skill level?
Thanks!
Hawk
