*TURBONERD*You know, women and POC are generally disenfranchised, women of color more so. As absurd as this article is, you aren’t doing yourself any favors by railing on people who don’t look like you.
But he didn't "rail on people that don't look like him." He referred to those groups (not) being "disenfranchised in the outdoor rec world." There is no evidence "people of color" are disenfranchised in the outdoor rec world. So he is right. He is also right about Outside magazine, which has become more of an extreme radical leftist outlet than what it purports to be.

In retrospect, my reading might’ve been a bit in bad faith, so you’re right that he never explicitly “railed on” anybody other than the ‘journalist’ here. that. That said, you don’t need empirical evidence to know that black people and POC in general aren’t present in skiing to a degree that’s representative of the percentage of the US population they make up. If you ski often, it’s pretty obvious, and that holds true for the other parts of the outdoor sports umbrella I’m familiar with. Whether that’s because of financial barriers to entry, the culture, or something else entirely is worth questioning, though, so the idea that they’re disenfranchised in the outdoor rec world is an entirely reasonable one.
On another note, as somebody who does identify as a leftist, the idea that Outdoor Mag is a “radical leftist outlet” is laughable; it’s almost impossible to read it as anything other than a centrist liberal magazine.

Disenfranchisement means to deprive someone of a right. They are not by any measure disenfranchised. In fact, the outdoor industry, if you look into, is bending over backwards to attract minorities.
Extreme leftists like you and Outside do mental gymnastics to equate this with depriving them of their right to participate. Its totally, utterly ridiculous.

There's more than one meaning for disenfranchisement - "marginalized" is another - and just because there's greater representation of minorities in ad campaigns and magazines doesn't mean that can't still be the case. I know from experience - which I'll admit is that of somebody who grew up on the East Coast - that there's some pretty deeply rooted homophobia and racism in ski culture, and I'm honestly surprised that you're not acknowledging that, whether it's by way of refusal or inability to do so.
Turbonerd is right. Don't bring your political agenda into this thread unless you're prepared to be engaged with by people with differing opinions, and a better understanding of the current climate in the outdoor world.
That said, this is high-level clickbait. I mean, there's a freaking affiliate link on the word "Coors." It's a dandy way for Outside to make money, and I garuntee you that this is not the majority opinion at that magazine. Don't be an asshole when you drink, but also, don't judge people who wear practical gloves, care about what skis they're on, and know their way around the hill. Personally I'm of the opinion that illegally camping in your sprinter is way more of a dick move than cracking a cold one on the lift.
I feel lke this dude is just jelly that despite shelling out 5 grand on dps and arcteryx, drunken, kinco-wearing dirtbags still ski way better than him.

hahahah him ripping on Kincos was goddamn hilarious
Ah man, this guy has to be trolling. Such a classic character, think the Dad from American Pie- but way more uptight about his performance in recreational activities. You can feel the tension in him trying to strike a balance somewhere between the overly competitive (and underwhelmingly skilled) douche and the chill mountain guy. The dad-speak style slang was just dripping with mid-life crisis. "Backcountry mountain biking", "hibachi is flaring with moose burgers", locals on "custom built skis". What the fuck does any of that even mean? This has got to be a joke.
If he is serious, he should just lean into his 40s, write a real article for an audience of his demographic- maybe Ski Magazine, lecture his kids about booze if he so chooses, and stop trying so hard to come off as a condescending prick. No one needs to hear you brag about how "respectable" your Enduro MTB times are, bro, fuck off.
SammyDubzhahahah him ripping on Kincos was goddamn hilarious
honestly, I feel bad for him. He will never know the feel of spending 1/5 of his glove budget on gloves, and the rest on beer just to piss off entitled jerries in the tram line

I always think people are trolling and then I go outside and realize how many entitled self-righteous pricks there are in the world and that squashes my doubts

the local ski bums who have been there their entire lives and know the area and their gear inside and out must certainly be wrong!
When you say glove budget do you mean glove as in glove compartment or budget on actual gloves for hands?

Does it count as tree skiing if there's only 4 trees... Seriously though, why do dumbass jabronies like this guy have jobs? I read some of his shit and it's all just as lame. There's plenty of good writers on here, why don't y'all send samples to industry magazines and make some money while producing content that's relevant to actual skiers.

Outside is 100% a libtard organization whose sole purpose is to hawk gear for whoever shows them the money. They wrote an article on exactly what i referenced. No one is going and grabbing bed sheets and crosses when black folks ski so no they are not disenfranchised when it comes to recreating. Ya people are racist, culture doesn't change over night.

This whole time I thought you two were talking about the ski brand POC. Sitting here trying to understand what POC being disenfranchised meant lol and wtf it had to do with black people. Since when does "people of color" have a fucking acronym hahaha what theeeee foooook. What ever happened to just saying minorities?

Dude go "own the libtards" somewhere else, this thread has nothing to do with your Breitbart-level politics

no dude this guy is DROPPING TRUTH BOMBS about the CONSPIRACY between the RADICAL LEFT and the ANTI-DRINKING NERDS to RUIN SKIING FOREVER by BANNING DRINKING and WHITE PEOPLE FROM THE SKI HILL!!!
jjdsteezei shared his FB on the first page of the thread
Ah I see that now. Wasn’t hard to search his name but I was specifically sharing his photo which most who saw this thread wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
Took the words right out of my mouth, not to mention his hand looks like he dropped it behind him while mid-turn.
Dude looks like a complete Jerry while his kit costs more than the car that I drive to the mountain. I hope he knows that how much money you spend on your gear doesn't mean shit in skiing because there are people more dedicated to skiing that will barely scrap enough cash just to pay for a pass and transportation to/from the mountain.
Bet he'd have a stroke while watching either a Pork Frat, Hood Crew, or a YMR edit.

You realize we’re saying the same thing, right? Outdoor is definitely liberal, and full of corporate shills (like most outdoor rec publications), but it’s not “radical leftist” at all. Look up Jacobin, although it still isn’t really radical, or Current Affairs for an easier-to-stomach version of a leftist publication. If you want to read my earlier post about how disenfranchisement can also mean “marginalized”, be my guest. I’m notyping to completely repeat myself, but I will say that by that understanding of the word it’s pretty obvious that they are disenfranchised.

You’re right in pointing out that how often discourse and what’s considered appropriate changes is a bit absurd sometimes, so I’m sorry what I said was confusing. That said, language has power, so it does matter, and using the words people ask isn’t that difficult.

I'm not sure where you read outrage in my post.
There's certainly a deep irony in posting a nothing but meme about an NPC in response to a text post without reading the other things that I've said. It's almost as if you're reacting simply to a single stimulus without taking anything else into consideration.
I just love the NPC memes so much, I need to make some for NSer context, also I'm at work so I cant post a full response right now

Guys enough of the politics. This thread is supposed to be about crushing brews while spinning laps and how much of a squi the author of the article is.

My turn to ask about terminology, then. Does anybody know what a squi is? Is it just straight out of the Kavanaugh hearings?
