Need ski length and camber advise please help!!

I’m a 50 year old male weighing 160lbs and am 5-11” started skiing at age 8 regularly till about 22 until I dislocated my shoulder got married and had a kid. At the time I learned on a pairing K2 612 combination racing skis ( very old school). I got pretty good on them. I picked up skiing again 20 years later on a pair of first generation 190 parabolic. Just went a few times a year nothing serious and then two years ago got back into it full swing. I am currently using a pair of HEAD monster I.m75. 168. I got real good on them fast and now want a ski’s that’s suited for my skiing. I don’t know anything about the new extra “shaped parabolic” skis with camber or rocker. I need some advise. I am a strictly northeast packed powder skier. I like to ski the steeps no moguls! ( thats how I dislocated my shoulder) I mostly ski short quick turns I like the spring from the end of one turn into the next. My concern in purchasing an advanced ski is my weight. Im concerned I’m to lightweight to get the full benefit out of an advanced ski. Am I heavy enough to fully utilize the stiff camber of an advanced ski. Any recommendations would help. Either brand, make model length. I currently ski on 168. And think I should go to 175. Thanks for Any advise.

What don't you like about the monsters? At your height I think you should be skiing 180+ unless you like short skis.

Are you just looking to carve GS turns on groomers at speed basically?

Have you checked out http://blistergearreview.com/ ? They have excellent reviews on all types of skis.

getting a ski with a nice combo of camber and rocker would be most beneficial, also a length around 178-184 ish would be a good length. Dont be scared to ski longer skis.

If he likes the spring of turns he should go full camber, check out something like the rtm, from volkl, the Vantage series from atomic, something that will give you a stronger camber and a carving base definitely in the 175-180 range how much do you weigh?

I am your exact height and weight and grew up skiing the east coast. If you get packed powder it's a good day. You want a relatively narrow, firm ski with camber under foot. My east coast sticks are Head Monster 88 (177cm) and J Skis Masterblaster (96mm underfoot; 181 cm). The Heads are the bomb on icy east coast conditions (and ski slightly longer than 177 due to lack of rocker and amount of camber) and the Masterblasters are fun as hell. I don't think you could go wrong with either as a one-ski, east coast quiver, but if most of your skiing is up north (Jay, Stowe, etc.) I'd lean toward the Js because there's a better liklihood of snow vs ice up there. IMO, rocker shouldn't be a consideration for an EC ski unless you're going to consistently be in good snow and buttering or smearing all over the place. If you're a directional skier on piste, grip in icy conditions and dampness are paramount. You said you like short turns so naturally an 88 underfoot ski will make you happier than a 96, but the Js are pretty playful even with the titanal in them and can snap short turns pretty easily (though not as easy as the Monsters).

I weigh 160. I sometimes think I’m to light to really get the full benefit of a full camber? But like I said I’m new to the new ski lingo and styles.

I do like the monsters but since their my first up to date ski I feel like I’m missing out on something that would be better suited for me. I happen to buy the monsters used and didn’t have a ski store recommend anything for me. I like them but wondering if there’s better. I’d say I’m more of a slalom skier short quick turns on steeps.

You should see if you can hit some demo days at a ski hill and get on a bunch of different skis if you can.

Maybe take a look at the Black Crows Vertis? 85mm waist, 15m turn radius, rocker/camber, great company, high quality skis. Also read through the blister website I linked earlier and see if anything resonates with you.

Yeah you want 175s at least. If you were skiing out here I'd say closer to 180+ for someone your size and level. Rocker in the tip really helps make a longer ski more manageable so probably go a little longer the more rocker.
