VinnieFYou could also say cameras on phones are pointless. It's just nice to have and cool. Now you can actually film a bullet (22 or slower) traveling through air with a phone. very neato.

nah for real but get the new iPhone SE they just announced. I think it’s $400us and it’s got a dope camera and still has a finger print scanner. Also has the internals of the iPhone 11 so want useless soon. The zoom and wide angle on the full price iPhones 11 are just gimmicks and unless you want that whole screen thing then I reckon the SE is the best option

IanAvery-LeafCouldn’t disagree more. Adding additional focal lengths to phones is the best thing to happen to phone cameras since putting cameras on phones in the first place. Being stuck with the same old ~28mm length is limiting creatively, you wont find many photographers with just one lens in their kit.
the new SE is exciting people by the $399 price point but if you look below the surface its less value than you think. It’s basically a parts bin phone using most of what goes into an iPhone 8, even the camera. The A13 has a better ISP but the actual sensor/lens are the same. Same exact screen since 2014 that only had a minor bump in colorspace in 2016, although now its downgraded not having 3D Touch. Having an A13 also honestly doesn’t mean much when everything since the A9 has been more than enough speed for 95% of typical use. The “Whole screen thing”, OLED screens for true black battery saving, having a bigger battery (since this thread is about phones for skiers and the SE battery is tiny), multiple cameras are all things I’d argue are way more important and valuable to a person than the A13 chip. People would buy way less android phones if chip performance mattered most since the latest A chip from Apple is always ~18 months ahead of snapdragon performance on release.
One commendable thing I like about the SE is that its actual reasonable size and weight, phones are ballooning and getting way too big and heavy, its a super annoying trend. Having a brick in your pocket isn’t appealing

little1337I got an Iphone but I find that the battery definitely dies pretty quick while skiing. I know batteries dont do well in the cold but are there phones that do particularly well?

SofaKingSickthis isn't very helpful but my iphone 7 drove me insane with that, it'd be like hardly jacket weather and it'd die. my XS hasn't had that issue at all, for whatever that's worth
eheaththe truth is, every smartphone will have a shorter battery life with cold weather. The only fact of apple vs android is that iphones shoot the best video and pixel has the best photos, otherwise every phone is the same thing. The days of apple vs google only exist in the form of iphone users complaining to android users that they dont have imessage, please stop doing that.
SofaKingSickoh for sure. but my 7 would die when i walked in the woods on like a 35 degree day and the phone was in my pocket most of the time, so that was particularly bad

eheathYeah i mean phones from 5 years ago obviously arent as good as now, but cold + batteries has never been a good thing, regardless of brand.

ScaryDumpTruckS20 Ultra has 108MP, 100x zoom, the 100x zoom isnt super useful but getting clear shots in the 2x-10x zoom range is really useful. it can record at 8k (if you really want crystal clear shots), it can record slow motion at 960 fps and its mics sound a lot better, but iPhones record better? Thats just not true. The 11 pro max can only record at 4k, it can only zoom 10x, it doesn't support HDR10+, and it's slow motion is limited to 240fps.
And on the topic of pixel phones, they no longer take the best photos. A year or two ago they did but now their hardware sucks compared to other brands and they are washed up.

LilBenjiWopIt’s the truth man iPhone had the best video. 8k doesn’t really mean shit because no one has the screens to even watch 8k footage. More importantly for good video high-bit-rate. Also the colour science and fidelity on the iPhone is best in class. The classic android argument about numbers on paper doesn’t always equal the best in the field

The.Fish8k video and other insane specs don't matter if the quality of the image still looks like crap. Last year I switched from an iphone 7 to a galaxy s10 and my video quality took a major hit. The photos come out better than my old iphone because you can download the same camera processing apk that the pixel uses. I love my android so much more than my old iphone though, it isn't even close.
