How often should I change helmet
ive had my smith holt for about 4 years had no proper crashes, was just wandering if I should buy a new one as don't know if the polystyrene would become too solid or something?
Replace your helmet when:
1. you see visible cracks or large dents or when it's falling apart
2. after you take a fall and you say to yourself "wow, I'm glad I had my helmet on for that"
3. whenever you feel like your helmet is due for replacement, don't risk it get a new one. Your brain, friends, and family will thank you.
To add on to the solid advice above, most helmets have a very small amount of glue connecting the foam to the outer shell. If the helmet impacts the glue seal will break. So if you can wiggle the foam liner inside the shell then your helmet is done.
A helmet expires after 4 years of use or 5 years of shelf life at a retail store. I would recommend getting a new one.
