I'm 5'5", 155lb, and I have a 2012 174cm SFB mounted pretty close to center. We've been getting a lot of good powder but I'm having difficulty getting the skis to float - the center mount doesn't help because the tails can't sink as much. I lean back because the tips feel "dive-y" if I center my weight. In the chopped up stuff I can't go very fast - they're light and playful, but not great at absorbing crud or powering through things. When I'm tired I want to just steam ahead but I can't do that with these in anything resembling chop - every little bump in the snow gets transferred into my body. And like others have mentioned, they must be on edge for whatever little stability they have otherwise they get really squirrelly at speed.
I have a pair of 181cm ON3P Jefferies that I used in Japan - they're nowhere near as playful but they provide a lot of stability. Unfortunately they're in Australia. I've had lots of fun on ON3P Kartels but I can't find any for sale.
Do you reckon moving my mounting back would help alleviate my issues? Any tips for busting through chop and crud on the SFBs?
