I want to take my son (age 14) skiing during Christmas week, but am afraid of the horrible crowds. I'd really like to go to Killington for 2 days - Sat Dec 30th & Sun Dec 31st, any chance the crowds start to thin out by then? I've had relatives ski on New Year's Eve and reported it being less crowded (but no experience at Killington).
Can't really drive any further north as it's already a 6 hour drive. Thinking of staying in Rutland to save money.
We don't get up to Vermont often so I would like to try Killington.
Are there good ways to avoid the crowds and lift lines? We can ski advanced intermediate trails (e.g. black at Hunter Mtn but not double black). Avoid the gondola except first thing in the AM? Less crowded peaks?
Or should I just find a less well known resort? Thanks for any advice.
I'd really like to know some strategies for beating the crowds and finding less crowded lifts at Killington... What is the least crowded base area to park at? We do plan on arriving (anywhere we go) at least a half hour before lifts open.
If we still went to Killington, does crowded mean 15-20 minute lift lines or more than that?
Are there less crowded lodges where we should find for lunch?
Any advice is appreciated.
