Anybody dislocated their ELBOW before?

I dislocated my elbow during spring last season from learning rodeos. It's been a solid 8 months now but I'm still scared for this season that it can dilocated from a normal less serious fall. Sometimes I fall while running, sliding, etc and land on my elbow side, it feels funny and hurts a lot more at the elbow than anywhere else.

Anyone has similar experience?

I dislocated my shoulder skiing a few years ago and I know it is different, but I had a similar fear that I would dislocate it again if I fell. 8 months is more than enough time for a normal dislocation to heal so I would say go for it. You'll be scared at first, but after a few days, or even runs possibly, you'll get confident and the fear will start to go away. There is always the chance it will happen again, but think about all times you went skiing before that day and didn't dislocate your elbow. So send it, take some time to feel confident again, but don't let it change how you ski.

wearing safety gear besides a helmet is pretty annoying IMO but wouldnt a small/medium elbow pad be pretty bearable to wear under your jacket? might give you some peace of mind

Are you sure you didn't damage your UCL? It's basically the acl of the elbow. I have a good friend who tore his and he's been having mad elbow problems for years now

I tore and damaged almost all of the soft tissue in my elbow two seasons back, and it always got irritated from the smallest hit or fall up until a few months ago. Now there is an audible grinding noise and feeling, but no pain. Once i got the cast off I went full throttle again, but it probably wasnt a good idea considering it took me over a year to fully recover. Just dont do something if it hurts or use an elbow pad or something.

Would a brace not be better than a pad to prevent dislocation?

How did you land on it? Was it hyper extended? Twisting?

I've only dislocated fingers and toes and broken my elbow from impact in which case a pad would probably have helped.

I severely dislocated my elbow on a trampoline a few years ago. Make sure to see a physical therapist and do all the exercises they give you. When you dislocate a joint you stretch the ligaments that hold the bone in the socket and now you need to restrengthen those supports. It took me about 4 months of therapy to really get my elbow right, but if you are disciplined you can get it back to 100%.

I've dislocated both my shoulders and don't remember the muscle but I just don't have one.
my doc wanted me to pt it but just don't have the time rn and its an older injury and I've been putting up with it for a while.
it aches some days but nothing I can't live with.look up some exercise and stretch.
unless you are really in pain I wouldn't stress.

I busted my left arm twice in the same spot and it healed weird so that I can carry heavy stuff/strain it with a large force. Great conversation started when I lean of stuff though
EDIT: the elbow if weird now and make me look double jointed lol

Yes! I dislocated my elbow last winter (It's been about 10 months since) and it put me out the rest of the season. Most painful fucking thing ever. I Have like 95% strength in it now and a little shortened range of motion. However, it definitely doesn't feel quite right, like I can tell something is just a little bit off sometimes. I definitely feel less comfortable doing handplant tricks and never put my arm out when I fall now in fear that it would re-dislocated, even though the doctor tells me it's no more likely too now.

Thats a long time, you must of f'd it up pretty badly. I am sitting at 7 to 8 months now and its about 100 pct rom and idk about strength but at least 95 pct. I stil have the same issue as some people here where falling on it or banging it against something produce the weirdest pain sensation than doing it on my other elbow, do you get the same?

Hmm it's not like weird pain but just general soreness. At this point, I don't think I'll get full ROM back. I can straighten it all the way, but I can't bend it so that my hand touches my shoulder like I can with my other arm.

dislocated mine, did physio (6 weeks, 1x per week), got full range of motion back, but sometimes feel pain or weirdness when putting heavy objects down. I guess I need to hit the gym more often.

Not completely similar, but I shattered my elbow skiing two seasons ago and had two surgeries. My advice is go to a physical therapist and ask them, or just any professional advice, to see if your fear of re injuring it is rational or not. If its more a mental issue, get a pad and go for a rip. If its a real concern that it could be re injured, definitely chill out, its not worth it to fuck it up more than it already is.

I had a severe elbow dislocation a few seasons back from skiing too, worst pain I've ever felt. Like previous posts said 8 months should be for sure long enough to have had a full recovery. How is your range of motion? I think that was the worst part was just trying to gain my full range back, I never gained 100% but probably somewhere around 90%. You don't want to fall on it if you havne't gained your range back.

dislocated and chipped my elbow hitting the big air on my snowboard back in 09... hah

anywho - took some time to get extension back in it - i still cant extend it fully anymore..

I never had too many issues with it other than soreness and being tender from softball (throwing arm) in high school, and even now if its overworked. Just a sore elbow.

Ive landed on it a shit ton of times and have never had any re-injuring of it - did it in February and was on snow again the next season without any issues coming up.

Even today, if i rub it weird, it still hurts. but thats that.

I wouldnt worry about dislocating it again
