After a 10 year hiatus, I hit 2016-2017 pretty hard with 20+ days. I'm doing blues in Whistler regularly with most of my skiing in the PNW.
I'm now ready to buy gear and the last component is skis themselves. Here's the situation:
5'10" 160lbs. Not really a beginner anymore, able to do most blue's at most places, though there are a few I avoid. I hate moguls but my goal is to work on them for the 2017-2018 season. Done a few blacks.
I did private lessons for most of the season and found that most of my skis were pretty short, 160-164cm (rentals, just took whatever the guy gave me). I tried the Volkl Kendo 163cm and absolutely loved it. Incredible carving, great control, turned with ease, really a wonderful day.
The next day I tried a different brand, but did not like at all how stiff they were, and felt I had difficulty controlling them. I don't remember the brand, but the length was 167cm.
After a lot of reading online, it appears that I've been undersizing my skis. If in my shoes, would you stick with the 163cm Volkl Kendo, or opt for the 170cm? My private instructor has been telling me he wanted me in longer skis next time we went out together, but our last trip got cancelled and thus the season's over.
