Beginning to look at colleges, need some input

looking for some input on different colleges to go to. Have a little checklist that would steer me in the right direction but I want to hear from you guys (since a good number of you are passed this stage in your life) what schools would be worth looking at.

1. Want something close to good big mountain skiing. (Don't do much park but cliffs are my thing)

2. Good party scene / Greek Life

3. Alright Business programs since I'm going to college more for skiing than academics (Entrepreneurship / Marketing)

4. Location that isn't desolate, or boring. Little bit of population and fun never hurt anyone haha.

really anything you guys have would help. I've looked at Colorado State, Boulder, Montana State, University of Montana, University of Oregon, OSU and OSU Cascades, as well as a few others that haven't really inerested me. Thanks for any helpful suggestions or input!

Compared to most people I know who attend a school close to skiing, that's not very much, back in college me and my buddies would ski 80-100 days.

I have class 5 days a week this semester so I can only go weekends. Definitely going to plan my schedule better next season.

got 86 last season...going for the big hundo this season...i would say 75% of my days have been powder days....its insane

if you want to be in a frat, you pledge, and have to do whatever they make you for a semester. so on weekends that you'd ski, you'll have to dd people to red rocks or some dumb shit

If you pledge in the fall it's not really an issue since pledging ends like early december so you only miss really early season.

CSU is not the best, but it's doable. 2.5 hours to summit county (without traffic). 1.5 hours to good BC. People who grew up close to good mountains probably wouldn't like it, but coming from the Midwest I am pretty much happy with anything so I've had a good time.

Gonna be honest, everyone I know who went to CU Boulder to ski ended up partying more then skiing whether they're in a frat or not. When you wake up on a saturday with a killer hangover it can be fucking hard to motivate yourself especially when the mountains are 1.5+ hours away and you have to deal with I-70 traffic.

I go to the University of Utah, and whenever a skier asks me where they should go to school I aggressively tell them to go here. We have a fantastic business program, ranked usually in the top 50 or 60 in the country. I took class 4 days a week this year and skied 112 days (with at least 6 or 7 more in front of me, and i'm leaving EARLY) and I would say about 30 of those were face-shot pow days. Its about 30 min to park city for park skiing, or 40 minutes up to the cottonwoods (Brighton, Alta, Snowbird, Solitude) and then snowbasin, powmow, and deer valley as well if you really want to explore. The season usually starts pretty early and rumor has it snowbird will be open until July 4th this year. The university is right there with the city so theres always stuff to do and the nightlife is pretty sick, parties every weekend and the bars are always fun. Plus during the non-ski season months Utah has unparalleled recreation opportunities; mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking. We've got Moab and Zion NP. Plus Salt Lake is in a great central location, Ive done road trips to Idaho, Montana (Big Sky), Wyoming (Jackson Hole), Colorado (Breck/copper/abasin), Nevada (Lake Tahoe) and California (San Francisco) all during school breaks. The people here are great and if you make friends with other out-doorsy people you'll love life.

I didn't read the whole thread haha. However, check out colorado mountain college for your first 2 years then transfer to a bigger more expensive school. most classes start after 4. all your classmates shred. all your teachers shred and are better than you. max class size is 25. get those tough useless classes out of the way easily. I went to the summit campus which is in breck or dillon. summit county has breck keystone copper and a basin. skiing from october to june every year. hour away from vail and beaver creek. also the tuition out of state is like $215 a credit hour. in state is half that and if you can manage to get in district its $60 a credit hour. theres campuses everywhere as well. steamboat is pretty sweet because they have dorms and you meet more people that way. plus the town itself is 4 times bigger than breck.

MSU (Bridger Bowl) and UofU (LCC) are the only ones worth considering if you actually want decent skiing.
Anyone realistically considering WSU as a skiing college is a fucking Jerry.

I know there are better schools for skiing than CU distance wise, but honestly It's the perfect school if you want a balance. My two choices were Utah and CU I picked CU and couldn't have been happier. I skied a decent amount got around 60 days and living in the dorms my car was very far from campus so that was a big deterrent on mornings where I didn't want to walk. Avoid CSU I've been up there plenty of times its far from the mountains, lots of rednecks, girls are ehh, and the campus sucks compared to Boulder. The academics are good if you are in a reputable major, people are cool. So I'd say if you want skiing 90 to 100+ days a season go to U of U and if you want to a balance between skiing, partying, and other hobbies go to CU.

Where csu and cu differ is that the shitty parts of the student populations are basically the inverse of each other. Of cu's shitty population 70% are trust fund poser hippies from so cal and az, while 30% are trust fund rednecks (this is in fact a thing). Of csu's shitty population 70% are trust fund rednecks, while 30% are trust fund poser hippies from az and so cal.

I go to UNR. There's a pretty big party scene but if you aren't a frat douche there's always parties and lots of lower age populated bars within a walking distance of campus. Boreal and Northstar are close for park and Squaw/Alpine, Sugar Bowl, and Mt.Rose are also close with some good big mountain.

I hate Colorado because of the long drives to strictly park skiing.

Utah seems great but I have no experience with the party scene there.

I have over 100 days this year and ski at least four days a week because I scheduled my classes right. I usually ski before class.

I can't agree with you more but I mind the Cali kids a little less than the rednecks. The rednecks at CSU will just drive up and down the main stretch in old town and roll coal all night on weekends. When you are walking down the street or posted on the patio having some food nothing's worse than having diesel smoke in your face. But then again the Boulder hippies harrasing you on pearl is not much different.

WrennI'm going to Gonzaga next year it's relatively close to wsu since it's in the middle of Spokane, there's a sick community of people there and it's close to a smaller ski mountain and about an hour/hour and a half from schwietzer which is sooooooo sick. Plus they give fat scholarships it's dope at least check it out!


Spokane sucks. Gonzaga is pricey as hell. The dorms there are across the street from meth labs. Mt Spokane is a glorified sledding hill.

lol whaaaaaaaat?? I must be in a different colorado than you speak of. I mean don't get me wrong A51 breck copper and many others have some of the best terrain parks in the world but there a vast amount of big mountain all over the state. you could go back country at estes park just up the pass from cu or take a chairlift up to almost 13,000 feet at breck go to the A basin hit up the pali cliffs. side country gates at vail pass and on and on.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no mountain or bc in summit county compares to utah, montana or tahoe. Sure there are plenty of fun places to ski in summit, but its just not the same.

for sure. plus you don't have shitty i70 that takes 4 hours on a busy day and lift lines that take 30 mins once you do get there. I'm not saying cu or summit are perfect but theres more than just park

I've heard Aspen has some pretty insane terrain. Maybe I'm wrong.

Aspen isn't summit county. I was very specific with summit county because yes CO has good skiing, but everyone goes to CU to ski summit.

University of Utah is the best option, 20 min from Alta, Snowbird and more. They also have great business/ entrepreneur program
