JOTTOSo suddenly I feel like there's been a weird shift in where contents being released in terms of websites. Suddenly content is exclusively available on slvsh with newschoolers being left in the dust on what would be high rated videos. It's just weird to me because I feel like slvsh is starting to try to be more of a website like newschoolers and for some reason i don't like it. Idk I would like to see what people think about this.
Also I love slvsh and watching matchups and what they do there, and dont mean this as disrespect to them at all.
They are obviously looking to fill in some gaps that we have left, which is to be expected. There have been things we've done well at newschoolers, and things we certainly could have done better. I fully expect someone who is a competitor in the market to jump on opportunities they see.
I think one thing which surprises me a bit, is we put so much effort into highlighting community content over the last 5 years - but people got really frustrated that there was too much mediocre stuff. Slvsh is doing a curated push, so you can trust everything you see on there is good. There's way less of it, and no chance for a random person to get highlighted... but I can see that the internet is changing to have more signal, less noise.
In the end, whatever experience works for you the best is the one you should choose. I for one think its awesome to see what Slvsh is doing, because as Freeskier has moved more and more into competition with the space that Powder lives in - there's a real opportunity to showcase how powerful the youth of the sport is collectively.
Sure, Slvsh and us might duke it out on a couple of fronts, but that is the natural forces of competition doing their work. In the end the people that win are young skiers, showcasing that our part of the sport is strong, healthy and growing.
We've also got some pretty substantial updates coming down the pipes, which I think you guys are going to love as they start dropping. We also hired full-time our new crew of edit staff which are hard at work getting content created and curated that we know you'll love.
All I can say is that its going to be a fun winter. Skiing is fucking rad - especially people who came up with the park skiing mentality. If there's more players, it just shows brands how strong the space actually is and makes them think twice about abandoning it and only focusing on touring and rich people.
