Sociology project... Need answers

Went from an underground "rebel" type sub culture within skiing....to much more mainstream. In the process has taken on a lot of different main stream styles. Went from old school, for a while was all about the G look, had a super bright / neon color phase, than went into the hipster look, now it seems to be going to normal fitting clothes

Idk what your project is on... but if you want to talk about socioeconomic influences on the sport, you can talk about the commercialization of free skiing. Back in the 90's, none of the ski companies were innovating their skis to do anything outside of racing or moguls. Skiers who wanted to ride switch were modifying racing skis in their garage and bending the tail up. It wasn't until there was enough consumer demand for a "twin tipped" ski that Salomon came out with the Salomon 1080, which I believe is the first twin tip ever made. This ski obviously drove progression to new heights in the late 90's/early 2000's. As the riders progressed the sport and shared a new way to ski with the community, the sport grew in popularity. The increase in popularity vastly increased the market for twin tip skis. Soon, all of the major ski companies (Salomon, Rossi, K2, etc.) had a twin tip park ski on the market. Companies like Armada, who are solely dedicated to Freesking, started to rise up to gain a spot in this new market. This did two things for the sport - 1.) It allowed riders to get legitimate sponsors and make a career out of Freeskiing for the first time (see Tanner Hall). 2.) As freeskiing became more and more commercialized, there was an increase in competition within the freeskiing market. This competition drove suppliers to innovate their products, drive down their prices, introduce new products, etc.
Over time, as the sport became more popular and hence more commercialized, we have seen so much innovation in everything from skis to boots to outerwear. There are so many suppliers in the market and that is good for skiing; it helps drive progression and the popularity of the sport.

hey man i have a bachelors in environmental sociology and wrote a couple papers related to the ski industry...not necessarily free skiing, however. i focused mainly on how climate change will/is affecting the industry, but if it helps i can send you some stuff.

Conflict perspective of skiers vs boarders or racers

Imo, and I'm 37 yo and been through a lot of generations, skiing hasn't changed that much.

Before NS you had Glen Plake, Brad Holmes, Seth Morrison and Shane, 3 different generations that always rejected "what you were supposed to do" on skis. There are many more, but this isn't a new thing. Skiers at big mountains have always pushed the sport forward, because to society it isn't normal.

I'm glad to have had such a passion in my life and continue to help young skiers reach their ambitions and progress the sport moving forward.
